(本节课的生词较少,而且单词的拼写比较简单,所以学生学起来不会感到困难,如果班级学生的水平较高,可以鼓励学生当堂掌握。)

(1)复习上节课的内容

T: Look at these phrases in Chinese. Can you try writing each of them in English?
Have Ss translate the phrases in pairs. Then invite a few pairs of Ss to write their answers on the board.
T: Now look at these sentences. Can you try writing them in English?
Have Ss translate the sentences in pairs. Then invite a few pairs of Ss to write their answers on the board. Explain any difficult words if necessary.
2. Before Reading(2a)
T: What do you often do to help your parents at home?
Have a few Ss talk about things they do at home.
T: Do you think kids should help out with chores at home?
Have Ss think for 2 minutes. Then have Ss write down some reasons for their ideas.

3. While Reading (First reading: Work on 2b)
T: Today, I would like to teach you a reading skill: skimming. What does skimming mean? It means looking quickly through a piece of writing to fi nd the main idea without reading every word. It is still a good idea to read the first sentence in each paragraph a little more carefully.

T: You will read two letters about kids doing chores. According to Ms. Miller and Mr. Smith, what are the pros and cons about kids doing chores?

6. Homework
