课程目标及课程设计理念
基础教育阶段英语课程的总体目标是培养学生的综合语言运用能力。虽然本课为阅读课,在设计时,考虑到对学生的听、说、读、写四个方面的综合运用能力的锻炼和培养,我将词汇,语法,功能和话题等方面的问题有机结合,设计不同的活动,调动学生的积极性。希望学生通过本课的学习能恰当地运用阅读策略,理解文章,进一步增强对文化的理解与认识。

教学目标
a.培养阅读技巧,提高以读促说的能力。
b.能就现在的热点话题-交换生这一材料展开讨论,培养用英语去思考问题的能力,充分发挥自己的想象力,针对在国外生活可能遇到的问题发表自己的观点。
教学设计理念
通过本 通过本课学习,让学生更多地去了解中国的历史,甚至是其它国家的历史情况。我根据自己的教学风格和教学班级的实际情况,从学生的学习兴趣,生活经验和认知水平出发,倡导体验,实践,参与,合作与交流的学习方式和任务型的教学途径,发展学生的综合语言运用的能力,使语言学习的过程成为学生形成积极的情感态度、主动思维和大胆实践、提高跨文化意识和自主学习能力的过程。
学情分析
初二的孩子,有比较明确的学习动机和积极主动的学习态度,对英语表现出较强的自信心。他们的语言有了一定的积累,通过自主、合作学习能探究出一些较有难度的问题。我班学生积极活跃,有较强的求知欲。能用英语表达中国的文化和传统,对学生来说是一件有意思的事情。

本课时的难点是怎样看待和理解国外的文化。
教学环节
Step 1 Pre-reading
Have a competition between boys and girls. Let’s see how much they know about China. Answer the questions as quickly as they can. This competition is to arouse the students’ interest.
1. Who was the first emperor in China?

3. Which dynasty was Qianlong in?
4. Is the Palace Museum in Chinese style or Russian style?

Step2 While-reading
You know China very well. China has a long history and it is becoming stronger and stronger. More and more foreigners come to China to teach or visit. My friend Leo, he has been in China for two years. Do you want to know what Leo did in China? Let’s read the passage with the new reading strategy and match the main idea of each paragraph.

Paragraph Three and four
I will call one of the students to read the passage aloud. Others underline the words they don’t understand. Then I will call some students to explain their problems.
This is the whole passage we learnt today, but I want to know if you understand the passage well, I have two questions for you:
1.What’s the main idea of the whole passage?
Answer: Leo introduced Chinese culture from a foreigner’s view.
2. Leo’s friends thought Chinese history was very hard to understand, what does Leo think about it?
Answer: He thinks if you study hard, you will understand any culture.
c. Show one sentence: Success belongs to the persevering.
d. I really like the sentence, because my own experience shows that it is exactly true.
I went to America in 2007 to be an exchange teacher. I was really excited about that.
But when I got there, I had lots of problems. First of all, I had the language problems, so we had meetings all day to improve my listening and speaking. Traffic is another problem for me, sometimes I walked to school or someone gave me a ride. The biggest problem for me is my son. I missed him very much. I can’t help crying when I missed him. I had a really hard time in America, but at the end of the school year, I got lots of honors, for example, I was interviewed by the TV station, the newspaper in Cleveland and the magazines.
From my experience, I want to tell my students that if we hold on to our dream, we will achieve it.
Step 3 After-reading
Group work:
Exchange programs are becoming more and more popular, do you want to be an exchange students? Please discuss the problems with your partners. If you are going to a foreign country as an exchange student (交换生), what problems will you have and how to solve them? (when, where, why…)
Writing:
If you are going to a foreign country as an exchange student, you may have different problems, how to solve the problems? Please write a passage about 80 words.
food problem, friend problem, traffic problem, language problem, money problem…
Show time: I explained the structure, the handwriting of one of compositions. Another student read his composition aloud.
Step4 Homework:
1. Finish the composition.
2. Write an unusual experience you had.
