Unit 4 Food and Restaurants
Lesson 29 Let’s eat! Let’s Drink!
Teaching Content:
Mastery words and expressions: apple, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty
Known words and expressions: a glass of juice, a can of, coke, a bottle of, a cup of coffee
Teaching Aims:
1.Learn more about the food and drink culture in western countries.
2.Cultivate the sprite of teamwork in the dialogue.

1.Know about more words of fruit, food and drink in China and western countries.
2.Numbers from 16-20.
Teaching Difficult Points:
1.The names of fruit, food and drink.
2.The expression of uncountable nouns.
Teaching Preparation: Flashcards or pictures
Teaching Aids: Audiotape, Flashcards
Type of Lesson: New Lesson
Teaching Procedure:
Step1.Let the students play “Count Numbers Game”. The students who make mistakes sit down. The students who still stand at last are the winners.
Step2. Act the dialogue out in Lesson 29.
Step3. Show some pictures to the students and ask: “What’s this?” “It’s a glass of juice.” “It’s a can of coke.”
Prepare some bottles of water. Let them say “two bottles of water” “ten bottles of water” …
Prepare some cans of coke. Practice “five cans of coke” “eleven cans of coke” …
Step4. Show some pictures of apples, oranges, bananas strawberries and melons. Then introduce them to the students.
Step5.Practice
You can ask the questions “Do you like apples?” “What colour is it?”
“How many bananas do you have?”
Teacher: Do you like apples?
S1: Yes, I do.
S2: What co lour are they?
S3: They are red.
S4: How many apples do you have?
S5: Sixteen. …
Step6. Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books.
Let the students repeat after it. After several times, ask them to listen again with their books closed.
Step7.1. Let’s sing a song. “It’s time for lunch”
Show some pictures of food to the class: such as, eggs, fish, fruit, ice cream, jam, meat, noodles, porridge, rice, sandwich, soup and vegetables.
2. Fill in the blacks and let some students write their answers on the blackboard. Now listen again and check the answers.
Step8. 1. Finish off the activity book.
Sing the song together again.
Summary
We learn too many words of food and drink in this unit. So remind the words again and again.
Lesson 30 Pizza and Hamburgers
Teaching Content:
Known words and expressions: pizza, hamburger, French fries, bottle, pop, salt, pepper, not
Teaching Aims:
1.How to get what you want in a western shop in English.
2.More knowledge about food and drink culture.
Teaching Important Points:
1.The similarities and differences about food and drink culture between China and western countries.
2.Know more about their daily diets.
Teaching Difficult Points:
Patterns: 1. What would you like for breakfast?
2. I like salt on French fries.

Teaching Aids: Audiotape, Flashcards
Type of Lesson: New lesson
Teaching Procedure:
Step1. 1. Call out the numbers and let the students write down what they hear.
Sing the song “It’s time for lunch.”
Step2.Play “Listen and write”
You will call out a word and a colour. Ask the students to write the first letter of the word in the colour.
Say red apple. Write the first letter of apple in red. Continue for purple /grapes, red/ strawberry, yellow/ banana, orange/ orange and green /melon.
Step3. Introduce the western food to the students: hamburger, donut, hot dog, pizza, pop, French fries, sandwich
Step4.Play the tape as the students follow in their books. After several times, listen again with their books closed.
Step5. Practice
The teacher asks the questions first. Then let the students ask and answer one by one.
Teacher: What would you like for lunch?
S1: I’d like some French fries, a hamburger and a bottle of pop, please.
S2: What would you like?
S3: I’d like two hot dogs and two glasses of water, please…
Step6. Show pepper and salt to the students. They are used to increase the taste. Write the two words with colourful chalk on the blackboard.
Step7. Listen to the tape and answer the following questions.
1.What does Jenny like on French fries?
2.Does Jenny like pepper on eggs?
3.Does Li Ming like salt in porridge?
4.What does Li Ming like on porridge?
Step8. Let the students read the text loudly. Then check the answers.
Let them read in pairs. Remember to ask them to change the roles.
Invite some students to act the dialogue out with the things you have brought to the class.
Step9.1. Finish off the activity book.
Talk about one’s food and drink habit in the class.
Summary
Spoken English is an important part in English learning. So remember to give them chances to say as much as often in the class.
