Nice to see you. Today, we are going to learn some usage

2、s of the defining relative clauses. First, look at the sentence on the blackboard.Do you know the man who is standing in the front of your classroom? This sentence is a defining relative clause. who is standing in the front of your classroom is used to modify man. A clause is a part of a sentence. T

3、he defining relative clause tells us which person or thing(or what kind of person or thing) the speaker means.Step 2: PresentationLets look at the following sentences: 1) On 20th July 1969, Armstrong became the first human that walked on the moon. 2) There are reports that say Armstrong and Aldrin s

4、aw alien spacecraft when they were on the moon. 3) It is said that Armstrong sent a message to Mission Control which said that two huge, strange objects landed near them and were watching them. These three sentences are all defining relative clauses. who, which and that can be used as relative prono

5、uns. We use them to refer to people and/or things. Next, Ill tell you something about the defining relative clauses. T: 在主从复合句中充当定语的句子是定语从句,它在句中修饰名词或代词。在这一课中我们主要学习由关系代词that, which, who引导的定语从句。被定语从句修饰的词叫做先行词。定语从句通常放在先行词的后面作后置定语。一般情况下,当先行词指人时,用that, who或whom引导。如: I know the young man that/who is readi

6、ng under the tree. 还要注意以下几种情况:当先行词指物时只能用that而不能用which的几种常见情况:先行词为all, anything, everything, nothing, much, none, little等不定代词时。如:There is nothing that can stop him from doing it. 没有什么能阻止他做这件事。先行词前有last, next, only,very及序数词、最高级等修饰时。如:This is the most interesting film that was shown last week. 这是上周所放映的
