Express your like: I like ______. 四、Teaching difficult point: Learn the Alternative Questions: Is it new or old? 五、Preparation: Number cards, pictures of a skirt and a shirt and a sweater 六、Teaching aids: Recorder, audiotape, some number cards, some pictures of clothes and some real new clothes 七、Teaching procedure Warming up and review 1. Greet the class in everyday English they know and make sure they can respond in correct way. 2. Check the answers of the exercises in Lesson 12 3. Hold up a number poster to review numbers from one to ten. Point to real objects in the classroom and ask, “ How many… are there?” New lesson Step 1. No 1. Skirt, shirt, sweater Demonstrate: Hold up real clothing you have brought to class, or point to clothing that the students are wearing and introduce skirt, shirt and sweater. Repeat each word several times with the class. Make sure they understand the meaning of each word. Step 2. Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. Step 3. Practice Hold up a picture of clothing or point to clothing the students are wearing and ask “What is it?” Make them answer with right word. You can also use other questions such as “Is it a ____?” “What colour is it?” Step 4. No 2 New or old Demonstrate: Hold up the new clothing with a label you brought to the clothing a student is wearing, say “It is old.” Repeat it a few times, too. Make sure the students understand the meanings of “new” and “old”. Step 5. Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. Step 6. Practice the drill by asking questions “ Is it new?”, “ Is it old?” and “ Is it new or old?” Explain that if you want to make a choice, you may use the word “or”. Give them some examples with the word “or”. Lead them to answer the following questions. T: Are you a student or a teacher? S1: I am a student. T: Am I a student or a teacher? S2: You are a teacher. T: Is this a book or a pen? S3: It is a book. T: Is this book new or old? S4: It is new. Step 6. No 3: I like your______. Demonstrate: Pointing to your own shirt, say “ I like my shirt very much. Do you like my shirt?” You can use Chinese if possible. Make sure they understand the meanings of these sentences. Ask a student to come to the front of the classroom. Point to his or her clothing and make a dialogue such as: T: What’s this? Class: It’s a _____. T: What colour is it? Class: It’s _______. T: Oh, it’s my favourite colour. T: Do you like this ______ ? Class: Yes. T (to the student in the front): I like your _______ . It is nice. S: Thank you. If time permits, repeat the activity. Step 8. Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. Make sure they understand the meaning of the whole text. You may ask the following questions to check the students’ comprehension. What is Li Ming wearing? What does Jenny like? Is Li Ming’s shirt new or old? Step 9. Activity book In No 1, lead the students to write the correct words in the blanks to describe each picture. Step 10. Time to ask questions. Class closing Homework: 1. Read the text of Lesson 13. 2. The remaining activities in the activity book If time permits, sing a song they learned before. Lesson 14 Dress and Hat 一、Teaching content 1. Names of clothing: dress, coat, hat 2. Express size of clothing: big or small 3. Drill: Whose ______ is this? 二、Teaching aims: 1. Understand the meaning of the text 2. Remember the mastery words: hat, dress, coat 3. Master the special question: Whose ____ is this? 三、Teaching important points: 1. Alternative Question: Is it big or small? 2. Special Question: Whose_____ is this? 四、Teaching difficult point The use of Special Question: Whose _____ is this? 五、Preparation Some pictures, real clothing of different size and a hat 六、Teaching aids Audiotape, pictures, real clothing 七、Teaching procedure Warming up and review 1. Greet the class in everyday English they have learned and make sure they can respond in correct way. 2. Sing an English song together without the audiotape 3. Discuss the homework in the activity book. 4. Review colours and clothing in a chain drill. You may ask student A to ask questions about his or her clothing. For example, “What is this?”, “What colour is it?”, “Do you like it?”. Ask student B to answer the questions and then student B asks student C some questions. New lesson Step 1. No 1 dress, coat, hat Demonstrate: Take out the examples of clothing. Hold up each item and say the name of it a few times. Make the students understand and repeat after you. Then write the word on the blackboard and read them together. Step 2. Listening Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. Step3. No. 2 Big or small? Demonstrate: You may hold up two items of clothing you prepared and say “They are coats. This coat is big and this coat is small.” Repeat “big” and “small” a few times, comparing the two coats. Make sure the students understand the meanings of the two words. Read the phrases of No 1 after you. Step4. Play the tape of the text as they follow in their books. Step5. Practice Ask a student to come to the front of the class and put on an item of clothing you brought. Make dialogues like this: T: What is this? S: It is a coat. T: What colour is it? S: It’s ________. T: Is it new or old? S: It is _______. T: Is it big or small? S: It is _______. T: I like your coat. It is nice. S: Thank you. Then you may ask more pairs to come to make the similar dialogue. Step 6. No 3. Whose _____ is this? Demonstrate: Take a pen from student1 and take it to front of the class. You pretend not to know whose pen it is and ask student 2 , “Is this your pen?”. He or she says “No.” Then you turn to student3 and ask “ Is this your pen?” “No.”. You say “Whose pen is this?”. Turn to student1 and ask “Is this your pen?”, he or she answers, “Yes, it is my pen.” Then you introduce the drill: Whose ______ is this? Make them understand it. Then you take another item from student4 and ask, “ Whose _____ is this?” “Is this your ____?” Lead them to answer it. Repeat the action if possible. Step 7. Come to the dialogue in No 3. Look through the dialogue together. Make sure they understand its meaning. Step 8. Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. Step 9. Ask the students to find partners and practice reading aloud the dialogue from the student book. Each student reads the sentences for one character. Each student takes a turn being each character. Step 10. Activity book Lead them to do No 1 and No 2 Step 11. Question time. Class closing Homework: 1. Read the text of Lesson 14 2. Finish the remaining exercises in the activity book 3. The next reading in the student book If time permits, sing a song.
