This week we will begin a new unit about inventions. You can see inventions all around us, from TV to car, from food to clothing. We should say nobody can live without them. Don’t you think so? Can you imagine one day without inventions? Yes, we live in a world of inventions. These inventions make our life easier and more comfortable. In this unit, we will learn some inventions and their history. First, let’s get to know some new words. Step2 1a Read the inventions to the students. Call students’ attention to the five pictures. Point to each picture and let students tell what it is. Step3 1b Get the whole class to read the instruction together. We will listen to a girl and a women talking about the five inventions. Listen carefully and match the inventions with the dates. Play the tape twice. Step4 1c Ask a pair of students to read this conversation to the class. Then get students to practice in pairs. Using the information in Activity 1b. Step5 summary In this class, we have learned to talk about the history of inventions with passive voice. And we have done Ss: That’s impossible. Students explain in their own words the words in page 1 in the workbook. Make two sentences with the new words. Write the names of the five inventions on the blackboard. Guess and write the dates on the board. Repeat the questions and answer like this: What was the computer invented? The first time students only listen and try to catch the main idea. Then match the inventions and dates. Follow the tape and repeat several times. A: When was the telephone invented?
