Pronunciation Impacts on Spelling
In writing, students should pay more attention to the accuracy of spelling. Misspelling in writing may lead to change the meaning of a scentence by change a word to another word. Students always assure the accuracy of spelling by memorizing it. Spelling patterns of English words are variable. That gains students’ learning burden and the frequency of misspelling.
About English spelling, reachers pointed out that English spelling patterns are predictable and this predictability must be based on a consideration of morphemic features such as stress and the effect of affixes, as well as on a consideration of graphemic and phonemic features(see e.g., Hanna, Hodges, &Hanna, 1971; Veneaky, 1970). The most useful technique is one which uses analogy (Nation,2004). Previously learned knowledge of pronuncation can help students remember the spelling. Compairing with the pronunciation of familiar words and pronuncing the word to be spelled, it can help students spell the word out.
