Teaching Aids: The multimedia, the blackboard Teaching procedures: Step 1 Revision Ask one or two students to read their hero or heroine. Step 2 Lead-in Help students recall their prior knowledge of Egypt by asking them a few questions. Do you still remember something from our discussion on Egypt in Unit1 and Unit2? We talked about Toby traveling in Egypt and people’s curiosity about how the pyramids were built. Though we don’t know exactly how people at that time built them, we are quite sure of one thing, that is, all the pyramids were built for kings and queens. They expected to be buried there after their death. In spite of the harsh conditions, the Egyptians created this wonder of the world with their hands. It’s said the pyramids attired as magnificent as a palace inside. So have you ever read or thought about what is inside the pyramids? Are there any people buried in them? What do people nowadays call those buried in tombs? Apart from mummies, ate there any treasures inside the tombs of the pyramids? Have the tombs ever been robbed of treasures by people? What happened to these people after they entered the tombs? Were they rich overnight? Step 3 Reading Comprehension 1. pre-reading Before asking students to skim the passage, direct their attention to the Reading strategy first. After they read it, ask them these questions. What might be the connections between the title “The curse of the mummy” and the famous explorer? Why does the writer choose “The curse of mummy” as its title here? Do you think the title can draw students’ attention and arouse their interest? Please discuss these questions. Then ask the students to read the first paragraph. After that, ask students these questions: What is the first paragraph about? Is it the beginning of a story? What does the writer tell us abort the explorer in the first paraghph? What words do you think are useful for you to predict the ideas included in the passage? Can you predict the content of the following paragraphs with the help of the key word? 2.
