Unit 1 What’s the matter? Period 1 (1a-2c)
1. Teaching Aims: (教学目标)
Knowledge Aims:(知识目标)
1)Students learn the following new words:
Stomach, neck, foot(feet), matter, have a cold, have a fever, stomachache, sore throat, headache, toothache
2)Students learn the following target language:
What’s the matter? I have a stomachache./toothache./backache/headache. I have a sore back./
I have a sore throat./ He/She has a sore throat.

Ability Aims:(能力目标)
Enable the students to talk about health problems and give advice using the target language.
Improve the students listening and speaking skills.
Emotional Aims:(情感目标)
Let students know the importance of keeping healthy. Make students learn to care about others.

Step1 Warming-up and lead-in(导入)
1、Greeting: Good morning,class. How are you ,today?
2、Let’s enjoy the video.
3、After enjoying the video answer the question: What body parts did you hear just now?
Step2 Presentation(新课呈现)
Task1 Can you name the body parts?
1.Name the body parts.
(1)Show a cartoon picture and ask the students to tell his body parts one by one.
Give the students 30 seconds to read these words and keep in mind.
Read all the words after the teacher and touch their body parts as they read.
Ask students turn to their partners, one touch,and one say.
3.Practice
Work on Section A 1a. students say one by one.
Check the answers (Ask some students tell the answers one by one and the rest of the students read the words together)
Task 2 What’s the matter? Say different illnesses
1. T: Well, different parts of the body may have different illnesses, for example ...
(1) Show some pictures with different illnesses and ask the students to tell what these illnesses are : have a cold; have a fever; have a headache; have a sore back; have a sore throat;
have a stomachache; have a toothache.
(2) Read these words after the teacher and then read by themselves to keep in mind.
2. Show a picture about a girl who has a toothache,and ask students “What should the doctor say?’’
T: Do you know other ways to ask about the illness, we can say:
What's the matter?/ What's the matter with you?/What's wrong?/What's wrong with you?/
What's the trouble?/What's the trouble with you? (Invite the Ss to read these sentences)
(1)Teach the three ways of having a problem by making dialogues with the students. And at the
same time, show some pictures about these illnesses.
Eg: A: What’s the matter? B: I have a...(have a+疾病;have a+部位+ache; have+sore+身体部位)
(2)Pair work
T: Now let’s make conversation with“What’s the matter?” and “I have a...” OK?
Invites some pairs to make their conversations.
3.Listening practice
Listen to the sound and check the answers: 31254
4.Practice “what’s the matter with him/her?”
(1)Ask two students: What’s the matter with you? Then ask the rest of the students: What’s the matter with he/she?
(2)Look at some pictures to make conversations The boys ask “What’s the matter with he/she?” and the girls answer“He/She has a...”
(3) Game time.
T:I will ask two students to come to the front. One does the action, the other guesses. You have to finish 4 pictures within 30 minutes.
Task3 Give some advice
1. T: We have known so many kinds of illness. They are very terrible. Do you think so? You know I have a cold. I am not feeling very well. Could you give me some advice? What should I do? What shouldn’t I do ?
2. T :Look at the picture .What’s the matter with her?
S: She has a stomachache.
T: What should she do? What shouldn’t she do?
Ask the students to give more advice.
3. Pair work: Invite some students to make conversations.
A: What’s the matter? B: I have a ….
A: Maybe you should… B: That’s a good idea.
4. Listening practice
Work on 2b. Before listening,ask students to read these advice. And then check the answer
( 1- d 2- a 3- b 4- c 5- e)
Listen again. Ask students to fill in the blanks. And the check the answer together (drink some hot tea with honey; lie down and rest; see a dentist and get an X-ray; take you temperature; put some medicine on it)

Show the PPT to see what have learned.( Sentence patterns, key phrases about illness and advice )

Step 5 Homework(作业)
many students often have colds in our school. Suppose you are the doctor in our school now, what should you do? Please give some advice to the master of our school, and the student in our school .
