I know what my students need

Morning, ladies and gentlemen.
It’s a great honor for me to be here to make a speech. Hope you enjoy a wonderful time. Today, I will share my ideas on “How to teach students to learn at home”.
At beginning of my teaching career, I set myself a goal: To be a good teacher. It’s my dream. But now, I think, it is not easy being a good teacher. We always pay a lot of attention to what should we teach, and play little attention of what my students need.
Here, I address my ideas.
First of all, take my own shoes. As for my childhood, I need leisure time, funny games, positive evaluations, magic things and surprise. So as for the children nowadays, they also need those.
Next, I’d like to present what I observed from the children.
Firstly speaking, they need relaxed English, not full of recitation and paper exercises, as we English teachers, we can arrange some games and PKs, as for me, usually in the warming up process, I will invite the students to sing together or “Simon says”, or opposite orders, which caters for different grade. When they are in a happy mood, it’s better for the following processes. Then during the class, we can add some games, like group PK, boys and girls PK, take the example of our text book, usually in part F, it’s about the phoenix, and there is a long sentence, for instate: The girls get up and eat a hot dog and a hamburger. I make this part as a tongue twister, because I find that it’s a very effective way, the children are in a full swing.
Secondly speaking, the children need the right of doing less homework, in China the phrase “因材施教” is widely used among the schools, so as the English teaching, if the students can master the knowledge very well, they can do less homework and even don’t have to do. I think this kind of way can encourage them to keep moving in English study.
Last but most, they also need the opportunity of creation, sometimes we teachers over control them, but in fact we should trust them, ask them to make sentences, to design a role play dialogue, they are perfectly.
As for the topic: I know what my students need, I dare not say I know all, but I believe if only we are willing to observe and think, we can know that they need.
