M1U1 School Life Grammar ---- attributive clause (二)
Learning aim: How to use relative adverbs in attributive clauses
Key points: to make correct choice and write sentences using an attributive clause
Teaching methods: group work and discussion, practice
Procedure:
Ⅰ. Review (warm-up)
一、介词+关系代词用法:
1. 当关系代词作______, ______, ______, ______等不能拆开使用的短语动词的宾语时,介词不能提前。
2. 根据先行词与介词搭配的常规来确定介词的使用。
3. 根据整个从句句意的要求来确定介词的使用。
4. “介词+关系代词“可以引导限制性定语从句,也可以引导非限制性定语从句。
5. “介词+关系代词“结构中的介词是 in, on, about, from, for, with, to at, of, without 等,关系代词只可用whom或 which,不可用 that 。
6.当先行词是way的时候,我们可以使用that 或in which引导定语从句.在这种情况下that 或in which也可以省略
二、Rewrite the following sentences with preposition+which/whom :
1. A. The person ( who/ that /whom) you should write to is Mr. Ball.
B. The person ____ ______ you should write is Mr.Ball.
2. A. The games ( which /that) he took part in were swimming and shooting.
B. The games ____ ______ he took part were swimming and shooting.
三、How to choose the right prepositions
1. Find out which verb the preposition is used with. For example:
Have you met the person _____________whom he was speaking?
B. He is the man ____whom you should give your thanks.
2. Find out which noun or pronoun the clause modifies(修饰).For example:
A. The farm ____which we worked ten years ago isn’t what it used to be.
B. This is the tree ______which we used to play games.
3. Find out the meaning of the clause. For example:
A. The pen _____which he is writing now was bought yesterday.
B. The gas _______which we can not live is called oxygen.
四、Fill in the blanks using “prep+whom/which”.
1. The book _____________ I heard was written twenty years ago.
2. The people ____________ the man spoke weren’t listening.
3. The film ____________ I fell asleep was very boring.
4. The pen __________ she wrote that book can now be seen in a museum.
5. The little creature ________ scientists are interested is known as ET.
6. The gun __________ he was shot was never found.

一、1.读书第30页第1点:If the antecedent refers to a certain period of time and is used as the adverbial of time in the attributive clause, when is used to introduce the clause.
先行词表示时间,并在从句中作状语时,关系副词用when
When did you come here?We came here on Oct.12 , 2005.
===It was the day _____________ we were sent into the space.
2.读书第30页第2点:If the antecedent refers to a place and is used as the adverbial of place in the attributive clause, where is used to introduce the clause.先行词表示地点,并在从句中作状语,用关系副词where
Where do you work and live?We work and live in a space capsule(太空舱).
===It is a place ______________ an astronaut works and lives.
考点:where这个词不仅表地点,当先行词表示某人、某物的situation,或某事所发展的stage, 或表达某事所发展的stage,或表达某事的某个方面都可用where:
They have reached the point ____ they have to separate from each other.
3. 读书第30页第3点:When the antecedent is reason , why is used to introduce the clause.
先行词表示原因,并在从句中作状语时,用关系副词why
What are you doing now?I’m taking pictures. ===Can you tell me the reason______________ you are taking pictures?
4. 读书第30页第4点:归纳:
关系副词when=表时间的介词(如:in,at,during等)+which
关系副词where=表地点的介词(如:in,at,on,under等)+which
关系副词when=表原因的介词如for+which
用关系副词和介词+关系代词两种形式,完成下列练习:
1) . Hangzhou is the place ______________ I went last summer.
2) .He read the book __________ his sister had told him about.
3) .The reason _____________ Peter is so happy is that he passed the exam.
4) . I remember the day _____________ my father died. I was only ten years old at that time.
5) .Please give me the reason ____________ you were late this time.
6) .I will go back to the place ______________ I grew up and live there forever.
