The spaceship Shenzhou-7 blasted off on a Long March II-F carrier rocket from the JiuQuan Satellite Launch Center in the northwestern Gansu Province at 9:10 pm. after a breathtaking countdown to another milestone on China’s space journey. Onboard pilots Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng are expected to orbit the earth for three days, when one of them will float out of the cabin about 343 kilometers above the earth. When they make it, China will become the third country in the world who is able to conduct extra-vehicular activity (EVA) in space following the former Soviet Union and the United States. President Hu Jintao watched the historic moment at the launch center, joined by Chinese experts and other work staff. Two taikonauts would enter the orbital module, where one would put on domestically-made spacesuit Feitian and leave the module to take back test samples loaded outside, said Zhou Jianping, chief designer of the country’s manned space project. The other would wear a Russian Orlan suit and stay in the depressurized cabin for support, said Zhou. “We wish we could fly freely in space just like Feitian on the ancient Buddhist murals, so we gave this name to the homemade spacesuit,” said Zhou. Feitian, which literally means flying in the sky, is the name of a legendary Buddhist goddess. Other tasks of the Shenzhou-7 crew include the release of a small monitoring satellite and a trial of the data relay of the satellite Tianlian-I. The taikonauts, all 42 years old, are scheduled to land in the central region of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in a re-entry module after their mission is completed. 46. They call the spacesuit Feitian because _______. A. The spacesuit can help them to fly freely in the sky B. Feitian is the name of a legendary Buddhist goddess C. The spacesuit is made in Russia D. They wish they could fly freely in space just like Feitian 48. The main task of the Shenzhou-7 crew is to _______. A. float out of the cabin about 343 kilometers above the earth B. conduct extra-vehicular activity in space C. release a small monitoring satellite D. take back test samples loaded outside 49. According to the text, we can know that_______. A. China has launched two manned spacecraft with astronauts on board B. The three pilots are expected to orbit the earth for 3 days C. The former Soviet Union and the United States can not conduct extra- vehicular activity in space D. Two taikonauts would leave the module to take back test samples B How many times have you heard the expression that most people spend more time planning their vacation than they do planning their lives? I would expand that expression by adding that most people spend more time “thinking” about their vacation than they do thinking about what's important in their life. While rest and relaxation are a must in living a balanced life, it’s not what we were created to do. After all, the Master Creator took his R&R (Rest and Recreation) on the seventh day, only after six days of “definitely directed thought.” Wallace D. Wattles, wrote “There is no labor from which most people shrink (退缩) as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the hardest work in the world.” And yet it is the first and primary labor of achievement. My friend Mike Litman wrote an outstanding article this week. It’s called “The Millionaire Composite” and it analyzes one of the big differences between super-successful people and everyone else. He writes “I recently visited a Real Estate Multi Millionaire Mogul. What did I see next to his desk? His vision statement, along with a list of what he values in life — hand written. “A few months back, I interviewed an individual who has sold over a billion dollars worth of products on television. He told me that he reads his life and business vision and goals daily, and that he takes time to visualize (使看的见) exactly what he wants to create each night before falling asleep.” What is your life’s purpose or your personal mission statement? Is it written down? Do you review it and think about it often? Is your life organized around your purpose and a set of goals that support that purpose? Without purpose and goals — definitely directed thought — you are like the proverbial “ship without a rudder (舵).” There is power in your purpose and in your goals. It is the power that takes you over obstacles, the fuel that propels (驱使) you toward the life you envision. 50. As is known to us all, ______ are a necessity in living a balanced life. A. wealth and relaxation B. health and wealth C. work and rest D. rest and relaxation 51. In the article The Millionaire Composite, ________. A. the writer’s friend is a millionaire B. the permanent and continuous thought makes the writer’s friend shrink C. the writer’s friend analyzes one of the big differences between super -successful people and everyone else D. the writer’s friend advises us to think over our work all the time 52. The underlined word it in paragraph 3 refers to _______. A. an outstanding article B. the permanent and continuous thought C. the physical labor D. a good plan 53. The writer wrote the passage mainly to tell us that _______. A. we should think about our life’s purpose and personal mission often B. we had better learn how to plan our time C. we should know what the life is D. we should know how to become a successful businessman C “Hey, little buddy, will you support me when I'm getting old?” Han Wenshan, 35 years old, asked his new-born baby as he picked him up at home. The Chinese tradition of raising sons to support parents in their old age has been weakened by the rapidly growing economy and improved standard of living. As is the case with developed countries, China faces an aging society. People are living longer and having fewer children. Therefore many Chinese families are falling into a 4-2-1 family pattern: a couple raises one child and supports four elderly parents. But few realize this problem. The aging of the population is a trend that now affects a growing number of countries. Not long ago, the Information Office of the State Council, China’s cabinet, issued a white paper on measures China is taking to help its elderly population. The paper said China's population entered the aging phase (阶段) at the end of the 20th century as the proportion of people aged 60 and above accounted for over 10 percent of the entire population. By the end of 2005, China had nearly 144 million people over 60, accounting for 11 percent of the population, according to the white paper. An expanding aged population inevitably means that many issues must be settled, as the problem concerns every aspect of society. It puts more pressure on each family, causing disturbing economic consequences and serious social problems. It also challenges the labor force supply and the pension system. “I used to think that it’s not an issue for me to provide for the aged,” said Han, whose parents and parents-in-law all
