Whether foreigners or Chinese, from listening to speaking to speaking well, they all depend on listening to develop other s

2、kills. In our communication, time of listening takes forty-five percent. However, cultivation of listening is neglected in our teaching. Teachers only pay attention language system but neglect language skill teaching, pay attention to instruct knowledge but neglect micro skill training, pay attentio

3、n to grammar analysis but neglect students communication ability training, which lead to students absence and make class very dull. Ill state some points about how to improve listening teaching. I divide it into three major points.The first point is absorbing many books advantages and enriching text

4、book content.At present, some students use its very helpful to the students who take an examination for College English Grade Four and Grade Six. But it neglects active factor of speed and background sounds in training students communication ability. These materials are not read at a normal speed, t

5、hey are used for dealing with examination, not used for improving students communication ability. I suggest we should use as a supplementary textbook. The former is intensive listening textbook, which makes students master all kinds of examination skills. The latter is extensive listening textbook,

6、which broadens students knowledge fields. Its proved in practice the combination of two textbooks is very helpful to improve students listening.The second point is emphasizing micro skill training and improving students listening comprehensive ability.The process of understanding audio language is a

7、n active process that is affected by all kinds of skills, such as assessment, anticipation, conclusion, supposition and imagination. Therefore, to improve students listening, we should not only emphasize more listening, we must also know how to listen. That is to say, we pay attention to micro skill

8、 listening training which includes comprehensive ability of words, sentences and texts, it has six points: (1) distinguish word phoneme, including long vowel and short vowel, consonant, consonant cluster. (2) pronunciation variety, including skim, liaison, stress and rhythm. (3) get important ideas.

9、 (4) expectation and conclusion. (5) suspect new words.Ill state some points about how to listen to general ideas, sguess the meanings of words and cultivate expectation ability.Listening to general ideas is the most difficult and important phase in the process of listening, students should learn to

10、 listen to general ideas and grasp major ideas. They should avoid stopping when they meet with some unfamiliar words or phrases. Teachers should encourage students to listen boldly and continuously until they can understand it.In general, students are so nervous when they meet with some new words th

11、at they couldnt grasp the major ideas. Therefore, cultivating students to guess word meanings from contexts is an important way of improving listening.Expectation ability is also an important way of improving listening, its divided into three points:(1)lead students to anticipate from consistency of

12、 words, grammar and sentences.(2) let students anticipate from word collocation and idioms.(3) let students anticipate from macroscopic meanings of materials.The third point is training four skills and improving students communication ability.In modern language communication activities, listening an

13、d speaking are a continuous process. Reading and writing are a process of penetration each other. Four skills connect, affect, promote each other. I think, we should combine listening with other skills. Thus, we can improve our listening teaching.Ill state it from three aspects:(1) Use English as mu

14、ch as possible in class.In class, teachers should use English as much as possible whether give some background knowledge or explain some words or phrases, they make classroom become a place where teachers and students can communicate with each other in English. It can not only go over the knowledge

15、which students have learnt, but also stimulate students enthusiasm to think and communication in English.(2) Organize communicative activities in class.Teachers should create some situations, organize students to act out dialogues in pairs in front of the class and exchange roles.(3) Encourage stude

16、nts to take notes while listening.Students should write down some information related to exercises, such as characters, figures, dates and so on.I think listening plays a very important role in our daily communication process. To improve listening teaching quality, teachers not only take micro skill training seriously, but also train integrating skills.
