Have you ever experienced an earthquake? Ask the students to read and look at the photos of Tangshan and San Francisco to describe what they see in the two photos to a partner. (If a big earthquake happened, the whole cities might be in ruins. Large quantities of tall buildings might collapse. The broad and busy roads might be destroyed.
