Unit 1 The first English lesson
■Warming up
Hello, boys and girls. Nice to meet you. This is the first English lesson, Unit 1.
I am your teacher of English. My name is Ma Jiyong. You are my student. He is my student. She is my student. It is my English book.
We are friends now.
You are my friends.
They are my friends.
I’m a Chinese and my father is a Chinese. But my mother is American. So Chinese and English are my languages. My English is good. Your English is good, too. My lessons are interesting. You will be fond of my lessons.
Now boys and girls, turn to page 2. We shall have fun learning our English.
■Listening and vocabulary
1 Listen and check(√)how many people speak.
First, I am going to play a tape for you. Some people are speaking to each other. They are talking about something. Now listen and decide how many people are speaking. One, two, or three?
2 Look at the picture. Which words can you use to describe it?
Now turn to page 2. On this page there is a picture. What
do you see in the picture? Yes, we see Miss Li, the English
teacher, and the students. They are having an English
class.
On the right side of this page there is a box. In the box
there are eight words. Now read after me the eight words.
3 Listen and read.
Now we are going to listen and read.
Miss Li is having her first English class. She tells the class about herself. Lingling, Daming and Wang Hui, also tell the class about themselves. Listen carefully.

On page 4 are three pictures and three short paragraphs. Read the paragraphs. While reading try to cut(断句)/ the sentences into parts, blacken(涂黑)the predicates, shade(加影) the connectives and underline(划线)the expressions.
Now write all the expressions in your Expression Book.

3 Read and fill in the table.
On page 5 at the top there is a table. It is uncompleted. Now read the table and fill in the table with information from Activity 2.
■Writing
4 Write sentences.
On page 5 in the middle you see Tom and Jiang Li. The sentences for Tom are there. Now write sentences for Jiang Li.
5 Write sentences for you.
Now you go on to write sentences for you. Tell us about yourself.
6 Join your sentences in Activity 5 with and.
Two sentences can be joined together by a “and”. Now we shall look at the example and try to join the sentences in Activity 5 with and.

1 Talk about you and your friend to your group.

Now in groups of four talk about you and your friend to your group.

There are three words in the box. They are America, Chinese and English. Now complete the table below them. Match the name of the country with the name of its language.

On page 7 at the top there are four expressions or phrases. Now match them with the four pictures.

Let’s go Around the world on page 7. We shall get around the world. This time we are going to learn about family name and given name.

Good Morning, class. Do you see the picture on page 20? It is a picture of Tony’s family. How many people are there in this picture? How many children are there in this picture? There are eleven people in this picture. There are two children in this picture. Tony is the little boy in the picture. Who is the little girl next to Tony? She is Tony’s sister. Has Tony got any aunts or uncles? Has Tony got any grandmothers or grandfathers?

1 Look at the picture. Label Tony's family.
We can see many people in the picture. They are Tony’s family. Now please look at the picture carefully and try to label Tony’s family. Who is Tony’s aunt? Who are Tony’s parents? Who are Tony’s grandparents?
