Part I
Self-discipline is a treasure for our life. While the world is filled with temptations and distractions，one can only succeed by learning self-discipline.

Everyone likes to do things at his own pleasure, but self-discipline is one of the essential qualities that contribute to our progress and development. With self-discipline, we can overcome laziness, strengthen our will power and achieve our goals.
Once I was absorbed in a nice TV series. When I finished watching an episode, I was desperate to watch the next. So one episode after another, I couldn’t resist the temptation of the story and stayed up deep into the night. When I finished the series the next morning, I found it was almost time for school. I grabbed my bag and hurried to school. Exhausted and dizzy, I couldn’t focus on what the teacher said and fell asleep during the class, which made the teacher angry and me ashamed. After class I had to make up for what I had missed, thus disturbing my normal schedule. I felt very regretful afterwards because I was tired and busy for a long time.
For lack of self-discipline, my health and even academic performance were affected. As for us students，whether we can control ourselves properly is of vital importance. Lack of self-discipline may hold back our progress in life.

Never be afraid of making mistakes. In fact, making mistakes is making progress.

We always make mistakes in our daily life. Since mistakes are unavoidable, we shouldn’t be afraid of them. What we should do is to make good use of mistakes to improve ourselves.
I was weak in math when I was in middle school. As I always failed in maths exams, I was anxious about maths. Every time I tried to work out a maths problem, I was afraid of making mistakes, which made me helpless. It was a mercy that I met a nice maths teacher. She told me that I needn’t be afraid of making mistakes and only by making mistakes can I find my shortcomings. "Just try again!" she encouraged me. I was moved and followed her advice. After that, I made rapid progress in maths. As the saying goes, failure is the mother of success. I became aware that we can make progress as long as we learn lessons from the mistakes.
In a word, making mistakes is not a horrible thing. With an active attitude, we can make full use of mistakes to achieve self-improvement.

We may not be able to do better than everyone else to be Number One, but we are able to improve ourselves all the time. Those who are always trying to improve themselves are the real heroes.

I always hold the view that it is not the result but the meaningful process that is of great significance. As a matter of fact, not everyone can be NO.1; however, we can also taste the sweet of being NO.1 if we improve ourselves every day.
I can still remember a case when I was in Grade 1. Driven by the strong desire to succeed, I studied day and night but just couldn’t live up to my high expectations. How heart-broken I was at that time. Later, things turned out to be right when I came to realize that I focused so much attention on the result that I even overlooked the great progress I had made. Finally I took the heavy load off my mind and achieved what I had expected.
From what has been discussed above we may safely come to the conclusion that the real hero is the one who gains happiness by means of improving himself everyday rather than seeking to be NO.1.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try.

Life is like a long journey which consists of not only sunshine but also rains. When faced with failures, what we need to do is looking for a proper way to solve them rather than crying.
It reminds me of myself. Having failed several exams in a row, I almost broke down. Things got worse as I fell into the depth of despair and nearly lost heart. Never was I caught in such a hopeless situation. However, things turned to be right when I came to realize I must find out where the problems lay. Therefore, some efficient measures were taken and it wasn’t long before I got the highest remark in the next exam.
From my case, we can know that it is not how sad you feel but what you do to deal with the problems that really matters. So just cheer up and find ways to solve the problems, then you will find sunshine is on the other side waiting for you.

Self reflection leads to self regulation, essential to success. While it is easy to set goals, it is vital to practice some measures of self reflection to make progress toward our goals.

Diligence is significant to success. However, not all the efforts will necessarily lead to success. Actually, what counts for a student is the ability of self reflection.
My cousin is a top student and highly spoken of by teachers. I always wondered why I fell behind her even if I worked harder. One day, she showed me a thick notebook, where I saw her study plan and some good exercises. She explained that after doing homework, she would collect them and thought them over again. Meanwhile, she reflected on what she had learnt and practiced in time, gradually improving her study. This notebook, like a mirror, enables her to figure out what she lacks and where she’ll improve. Therefore, not only can she keep up good work, but also she can cope with what she is weak in immediately.
So self reflection is an essential skill for us students. It is timely self reflection that will help us achieve more progress.

Self-confidence is the first step to success. A person who is full of confidence behaves positively in solving problems as well as facing challenges.

Years of school life has taught me a lot of things, of which confidence is the most important for me.
In fact, I did not realize its importance until I met my new classmate Lily, a countryside girl, who was admitted to my school for having gained the first place in the Senior high school entrance exam. Lily was so excellent that all the people in her previous school were proud of her. However, new environment brought about her changing a great deal. Seeing her new classmates dressed in the latest fashion, Lily felt herself inferior to them. Now Lily is no longer what she used to be. She always keeps silent and treats everything pessimistically.
Gone are the days when Lily was the focus of her school, It is the lack of confidence that leads to a distinguished person fading away. Apparently, being possessed of confidence is of great significance to a person’s success.

As Winston Churchill put it, attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Difficulties arise in the lives of us all. The most important is how to deal with them.

It is universally acknowledged that life is a long journey filled with ups and downs. We’ll encounter difficulties and obstacles in the journey. But what really counts is what attitude we choose to deal with them.
Here is a story of my own. I decided to take part in a long distance running race in a sports meeting. Before the race, I had confidence to win the race. Unfortunately, during the race, each step seemed incredibly difficult. To make things worse, I fell in the last lap, breaking my knees as well as the chance of winning the race. To give up or to keep on? Without hesitation, I chose the latter and allowed myself to be optimistic, constantly encouraging myself to get close to the finishing line. In the end, I finished the race without getting a reward.
However, I have been regarding this experience as a challenge rather than a shame, which serves as a reminder telling myself to be positive whatever obstacles arise. Only when we hold positive attitudes can we meet the shinning sun on the other side of difficulties.

Change what you can change, accept what we can’t change.

Someone said that God treats everyone fairly, if he gives you less beauty, he will give you more wisdom. So don’t complain about it. When you can’t change what you have, you should make full use of the potential abilities.
Take my classmate Li Hua for example. He was born disabled, so he couldn’t do more outside activities at school. When he finished his homework, he used to do some drawing or develop the gift in music. When we held parties, he was willing to share his lovely songs with us or present a painting to someone when his or her birthday was coming. In this way he can enjoy himself and forget what he is poor in.
In the daily life, we should follow Li Hua’s example, don’t be sad over the disadvantages and be optimistic about his life. As the saying goes, “Change what you can change, accept what we can’t change”. this is a good attitude to life. Only in this way can we be satisfied.

Interest plays an important part in our life. Interest is the best teacher, which can help us make our way to success.

It is universally acknowledged that interest is the best teacher. If you want to learn something well, you need to show interest in it.
I have been crazy about English since I began to learn it. Every day I always spent a lot of time on it. After I read many English books, I gradually got to know the foreign culture as well as custom and got great fun from them. In my spare time, I took an active part in the English activities organized by our school, where I performed very well. It is interest that inspires me to make efforts and achieve a lot.
So I think interest plays an important part in our life if we want to be successful, so everyone is supposed to develop your own interest.

Success comes from doing what you really love and what you really good at.

As far as I am concerned, doing what we love and what we are good at really motivates us to achieve success.
I am crazy about music and I have been dreaming of becoming a singer ever since my childhood. My parents began to teach me children’s songs when I was only three. Since I started school, I have had more chances to enjoy various songs, including folk songs and popular songs. Driven by the enthusiasm about music, I also made the best of my time to practise singing a lot. What’s more, I love singing English songs as well, which greatly benefits me in my learning of English. Eventually all my efforts have paid off, and last year I entered for a talent show and won the first prize.
In a word, only with the motivation of love or interest, will we win ourselves lots of opportunities and make our way to success.

Interest plays an important role in our life. Interest is the best teacher for a learner, which can make learning more effective and efficient. With the motivation of interest, we will win ourselves lots of chances and eventually make our way to success.

Interest can make a great difference in our way to success. Only when one becomes interested in something will he be able to get down to it and devote all his energy to it.
Take myself for example, it is my interest in English that contributes to my constant progress I have been making in it. I began to be crazy about English when I was little. And I was into foreign culture and customs in particular. To meet my curiosity, I read English stories, listened to English songs and watched English films, all of which consist of my colorful leisure time. As a result, I always do well in English exams.
In short, interest is just like the lamp ahead of you. As long as you own it, you will make a miracle.

An ideal is of vital importance to one's growth and success. Living without an ideal is like sailing without a compass. In an attempt to achieve their ideals, everyone spares no effort to develop their potentials.
Nick Vajicic, an Australian, without arms and legs by birth, is the very person I've been admiring. Disabled as he is, being an normal person is what he has been longing for. With the sweet dream in his heart, he is trying to learn to swim, to play golf, to walk and dress himself. What amazes and inspires me most is that he is keen on delivering speeches. He has been invited to make lectures all over the world and is regarded as a lecture master. With his encouragement, more disabled are more confident to open up their minds and purse their dreams actively.
It's evident that Nick's success results from his great ideal, determination and perseverance. It's his ideal that guides and inspires him constantly. As a result, no matter what difficulties are waiting for us on our way to success, only if we stick to our ideals can we pull through and achieve our dreams.

Everyone has a dream and in our daily life, especially when we are facing some trouble, our dream from our heart can really tell us what to do. To some extent, one without a dream can not succeed.

A dream is a narrow beam of light in the dark, which leads to the grand path to success. When confronted with trouble, many people tend to deem that it plays a significant role.
When young, I dreamt of becoming a famous dancer. How hard I practiced and everything went smoothly on its way. However, because of a bad performance, I was laughed at by my classmates. No one knew how heartbroken I felt. I lay down on the bed, weeping. Realizing that my dream should not be stopped halfway, I determined to stick to the end. With hard work day after day, I won the first prize in my school dancing competition in the end. From my experience, I learnt it was my dream that mattered and contributed to my success.
Along the way to success, our dream should never be ignored. Do believe that where there is a dream, there is a way.

Leo Tolstoy said, “Ideal is the beacon. Without ideal, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life.” Ideal is important for everyone to realize his value.
