Beggars are often seen sitting by the side of a street with heads bowed as people pass them by. Some ask people passing by for a small amount of money and some just sit and wait to be given money. A few use aggressive behaviour to earn money.
To solve the problem of aggressive begging, an “alternative giving ”  plan has been suggested. Ten blue money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless causes.
Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective way to solve the beggars’ alcohol and drug problems. But the police oppose the plan arguing that beggars who do not receive cash may turn to criminality to feed their addictions. The homeless charity “Crisis” said the success of any plan will depend on its style. They think that imaginative and positive plans can help create local understanding and sympathy instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think they will not get enough money from the boxes for their showers, food and clothes.
Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find appropriate jobs is one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist.
The general community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need understanding and help.

Global warming is one of the major environmental problems we are facing today. Scientists think a further rise in the carbon dioxide levels will make this situation worse. The greenhouse effect causes the earth’s heat to be trapped in the atmosphere, which results in the increase in temperature. This, in turn, has an effect on various plants and animals. Educating girls quite possibly harvests a higher rate of return than any other investment available in the developing world. Women's education may be an unusual economical field, but increasing women's contribution to development is actually as much an economic as a social issue. And economics, with its focus on encouragement, provides an explanation for why so many girls are rid of an education.
Parents in low-income countries fail to invest in their daughters because they do not expect them to make an economic contribution to the family: girls grow up only to marry into somebody else's family and bear children. Girls are thus seen as less valuable than boys and are kept at home to do housework while their brothers are sent to school -- the prophecy (观念) becomes self-fulfilling, trapping women in a vicious (恶性的) circle of neglect.
An educated mother, on the other hand, has greater earning abilities outside the home and faces an entirely different set of choices. She is likely to have fewer but healthier children and can insist on the development of all her children, ensuring that her daughters are given a fair chance. The education of her daughters then makes it much more likely that the next generation of girls, as well as of boys, will be educated and healthy. The vicious circle is thus transformed into a virtuous circle.
Few will argue that educating women has great social benefits. But it has enormous economic advantages as well. Most obviously, there is the direct effect of education on the wages of female workers. Wages rise by 10 to 20 per cent for each additional year of schooling. Such big returns are impressive by the standard of other available investments, but they are just the beginning. Educating women also has a significant effect on health practices, including family planning.

For centuries people dreamed of going into space．This dream began to seem possible when high-flying rockets were built in the early 1900s.
In 1903 a Russian teacher named Konstantin Tsiolkovsky figured out how to use rockets for space travel．His plan was the first one in rocket science to use correct scientific calculation．About 30 years later, a U.S．scientist named Robert Goddard built the first rockets that could reach high altitudes．During World War II, German scientists built large rockets that could travel very far and carry dangerous explosives．After the war, scientists from Germany went to the United States and the Soviet Union to help those countries build space rockets.
These two countries were soon racing to get to space first．Each of these countries wanted to prove that it was stronger and more advanced than the other one．Both countries also had powerful bombs．People in the United States were worried when the Soviets were first to launch a space satellite, which was called Sputnik．The Soviets were also first to send a person into space．Yury Gagarin orbited the earth in the Vostok I spaceship in 1961.
The US government set a goal for its space program to be the first country to put a person on the Moon．The U.S．space program built a series of Apollo spaceship．These vehicles were powered by huge Saturn 5 rockets．In 1969 Apollo II took three men to the moon successfully．Nell Armstrong became the first person to walk on the Moon.
The Soviets may have lost the race to fly people to the Moon, but they built the first space station in 1971．The United States also built a space station．The space stations allowed people to live and work in space．Then the Soviet Union and the United States cooperated to hook two spaceships together in space．This action ended the "space race"．Today a much larger space station, built by several countries together, orbits Earth.
Another new way to go to space is by space shuttle．A space shuttle, first made in the United States in 1981, looks like an airplane．Astronauts who fly spaceships have used shuttles to help put satellites into space.

In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals.
