英语试题 第三部分阅读理解(共两节; 满分40分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 A You’re in a department store and you see a couple ofattractive young women looking at a weater. You listen to their conversation: “I can’t believe it-a Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find. Isn’t it beautiful? And it’s a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome. ” They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It’s nice and the price is right. You’ve never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it. You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes. Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing. Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it. Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don’t pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation-consumers between the age of 18 and 34. It is a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don’t trust ads. So advertising agencies hire young actors to “perform” in bars and other places here young adults go. Some people might call this practice deceptive(骗人的), but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. “Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing. ” However, one might ask what exactly is “real” about young women pretending to be enthusiastic about a sweater? Advertising executives would say it’s no less real than an ad. The difference is that you know an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. You don’ t know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance. 56.The two attractive young women were talking so that they could _____. Women often are told “You can’t have it all.” Sometimes what the speaker really is saying is :“You choose a career, so you can’t expect to have closer relationships or a happy family life.” or “You have a wonderful husband and children-what’s all this about wanting a career?” But women need to understand and develop both aspects of well-being, if they are to feel good about themselves. Our study shows that, for women, well-being has two aspects. One is mastery, which includes self-respect, a sense of control over your life, and low levels of anxiety and depression. Masteryis closely related to the “doing” side of life, to work and activity. Pleasure is the other aspect, and it is made up of happiness, satisfaction and optimism. It is tied more closely to the “feeling” side of life. The two are independent of each other. A woman could be high in mastery and low in pleasure, and vice versa(反之亦然). For example, a woman who has a good job, but whose mother has just died, might be feeling very good about herself and in control of her work life, but the pleasure side could be damaged for a time. The concepts of mastery and pleasure can help us identify the sources of well-being for women, and correct past mistakes. In the past, women were encouraged to look only at the feeling side of life as the source of all well-being. But we know that both mastery and pleasureare important. And mastery seems to be achieved largely through work. In our study, all the groups of employed women were valued significantly higher in mastery than women who were not employed. A woman’s well-being is developed when she takes on multiple roles. At least by middle adulthood, the women who were involved in a combination of roles-marriages, motherhood, and employment-were the highest in well-being, in spite of warnings about stress and strain. 63.It can be inferred from the first paragraph that _____. A.for women, a sense of “mastery” is more important than a sense of “pleasure” B.for women, a sense of “pleasure” is more important than a sense of “mastery” C.a sense of “mastery” and a sense of “pleasure” are both necessary for women D.women can’t have a sense of “mastery” and a sense of “pleasure” at the same time 64.Which of the following can be considered as a source of “pleasure” for women? A. Family life. B. Multiple roles in society. C. Regular employment. D. Freedom from anxiety. 65.The author’s attitude towards women having a career is _____. A. negative B. positive C. indifferent D. realistic 66.One can conclude from the passage that if a woman takes on several social roles, _____. A.it will be easier for her to overcome stress and strain B.she will be more successful in her career C.her chances of getting promoted will be greater D.her life will be richer and more meaningful D A pioneering head-teacher is calling for all secondary schools to follow his lead and start classes at 11 a.m., allowing teenagers two hours extra in bed. Dr Paul Kelley, head of Monkseaton Community High School in North Tyneside, said it would mean the end of sleeping in lessons before lunch, after experiments showed teenagers could have different body clocks from adults and younger children. Russell Foster, an Oxford professor of neuroscience (神经学), tested the memory of 200 Monkseaton pupils at 9 a.m.and 2 p.m.using pairs of words, and discovered a 9% improvement in the afternoon. Students correctly identified 51% of word pairs in the later session, compared with 42 % in the morning. Tayler McCullough, 15, one of the test subjects, said the majority of students would welcome the extra hours inbed. “I’m extremely hard to get up in the morning. One or two people like to get to school early, but most of us would be for going in later. I’m sure it would make a big difference to our learning ability.” Kelley is adamant that a change of school timetable will have a significant impact on exam performance. He said: “Teenagers aren’t lazy. We’re depriving(剥夺) them of the sleep they need through purely biological factors beyond their control. This has a negative impact on their learning, and possibly on their mental and physical health. We’ve just learnt of this, but it is vital that we act on it.” Kelley wants his school’s governors to approve his plan and put the new timetable in place before the opening of Monkseaton’s new£20m school building, the most technologically advanced in the country, in September. Kelley hopes his latest idea will be just as successful. “We have to be practical. But this proves that, by starting later, children’s learning improves, as does their health.” Foster said, “This is preliminary (初步的) data, but what’s exciting is that it matches more detailed studies carried out in Canada and the US. Teenagers get up late not because they are lazy but because they are biologically programmed to do so.” 67. According to the passage, normally classes begin at _____ in secondary school. A. 7:00 a.m. B. 9:00 a.m. C. 11:00 a.m. D. 2:00 a.m. 68. According to Russell Foster’s research, _____. A. the students tested did better jobs in the afternoon B. the students tested had very good memories C. 42% of the students tested could do very good jobs D. 51% of the students tested could master 9% of words69. What does the underlined word “adamant” in the fourth paragraph mean? A. angry B. absorbed C. adaptable D. determined 70. Foster’s opinion on teenagers’ getting up late is that _____. A. teenagers are practical B. teenagers are lazy-bones C. it’s based on their body development D. it’s good for them to stay up 其次节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 依据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Making Peace with Your Parents As a teen, you’re going through big changes physically and mentally. Your interests are expanding. 71 Here is the challenge: Kids need to explore the world in new ways, and parents need to protect them from the dangers that are all out in that world. These conflicts can easily set off fireworks in other wise calm houses. Sometimes conflicts can’t be avoided. But by paying attention to the building blocks of successful relationships, you can work towards making home a happy and healthy place for you and your parents. For instance, try to find a time to talk when your parents are not angry, tired, distracted, or hungry. A good time to talk is when you’re all relaxed.Timing is everything. If the conversation begins to turn into an argument, you’d better calmly and coolly ask to stop the conversation-for now. 72 Listen to what your parents are saying, and repeat it back to them. This shows them that you’re listening. 73 Respect is the building block of good communication. People who respect each other and care about each other’s feelings can disagree without things getting ugly. 74 How do you build trust? Trust comes by actually doing what you say you’re going to do. Some teens find that doing fun activities with their parents can improve their relationships. Sometimes we forget that parents are more than rule-makers-they’re interesting people who like to watch movies. And go shopping-just like their teenagers! What do you do if you are trying your best, but your relationship with your parents continues to be rocky? 75 You can find supportive adults, such as a teacher or a coach, who can lend an ear.
