According to a recent study, the more you try while you are learning new information, the better you can remember it later. This might surprise you. When teachers are presenting new information, they often give students lots of help. But a new study shows this may not be the best way to support learning. “Don't be too quick to get help when learning something new,” education expert Manu Kapur said. “Try to work on it yourself even if it means trying different ways.” Kapur came up with the idea that trying hard can lead to better learning. Then he tested it out on students in Singapore. He separated students into two groups. In the first group, students were asked to solve math problems with the teacher's help. In the second group, students were asked to solve the same problems by helping one another, instead of getting help from the teacher. With the teacher's help, students in the first group were able to find the correct answers. Students in the second group did not solve the problems correctly. But they did come up with a lot of good ideas. The students were then tested on what they had learned. The group without any help from a teacher scored much higher than the group who had help. Kapur said working to find the answers helped students understand the process (过程), not just the solution. Kapur's advice for kids is to put a lot of effort into learning something new rather than going to your teacher for help. “Simply doing a little work or nothing at all won't work.”says Kapur. “Try to solve a problem in as many ways as possible.” 21.What is the best title for the text? He's fond of all kinds of sports but he preferred swimming. One summer he took part in the sports meet which was held in the capital of the province and won a medal. His school praised him and the headmaster encouraged him. And he spent his spare time in the river. But winter came, he couldn't swim in the cold water. So he was afraid he would be unable to catch up with the other swimmers. And he was sad of it. Mr. White, Peter's father, found it and asked him the reason. He didn't think he could help his son. “You're a mayor (镇长),” said his wife, “If you suggest building a swimming pool, they must listen to you.” The next morning Mr. White held a meeting. But his suggestion was against because they hadn't enough money to do it. They discussed the project for a long time and at last they made a decision that they would collect some money in the town. Mr. White gave a talk to the school. He called for collecting 20,000 pounds for the pool. The school were all happy when they heard the news. They tried their best to save money. Some teachers and students put on performances or asked people to provide money for the project door by door. Peter took a few classmates home to raise a fund. Just then his father was watching TV at home. He didn't know what to subscribe (捐). He thought everything in his house was useful. At last he said to his son, “Give them a basin of water!” 24.Mrs. White advised ________. A. Mr.White was ready to subscribe (捐助) some money to the project. B. Mr.White wouldn't subscribe anything to the project. C. Mr.White didn't agree to build the swimming pool. D. Mr.White hoped his son could stop swimming. 答案与解析 B 从文章最终一句可知答案。 C The man who brings my milk used to knock for his money for the week's milk while I was eating breakfast on Saturday morning.Just lately he has been arriving before I get up.Workforce shortages mean that four men are sharing five rounds,so he has to start earlier. Delivering milk to people's homes is hardly good business, especially when the customer may have a choice of two or three firms serving a single road. In spite of local difficulties, however, labour troubles are not as great as a few years ago. There are enough men prepared to make an early morning start for the sake of an openair job with a fair measure of freedom. If they did stop calling, women would find it hard work to collect all the milk they need from selfservice stores.Dairies know that stopping deliveries in the United States resulted in falling sales. Marketing ideas have included introducing extra lines,in addition to dairy products, which the milkmen can carry to increase business. One dairyman said,“It won't be long before the milkman delivers more bread than milk.” Some milkmen deliver potatoes, and it seems as though variety will be limited only by the size of the trucks. So the milkman is likely to remain a familiar figure, and the dairy products he sells are unlikely to change very much in this decade.Flavoring milk is popular on the continent. In Britain those who like it buy plain milk and add their own flavoring.Even the returnable bottle continues to be used. As long as it has a reasonable life—30 to 40 trips are usual—the cost of collection and cleaning is worthwhile. 28.The milkmen now start earlier on their delivery rounds than before because________. A. there is an increasing demand for milk delivery B. they hope to reach the customers' home in time C. they have to collect the money for the week's milk house to house D. dairies are short of delivery men and the companies worry about falling sales 答案与解析 D 事实细节题。从文章的第一段最终一句和其次段的第三句可知答案。 29.Why are there enough men prepared to make an early morning start? A. Because they can enjoy a certain amount of freedom in the fresh air. B. Because they like working outdoors and breathe the air freely. C. Because they can enjoy a great amount of freedom outdoors. D. Because they like walking freely in the fresh air. 答案与解析 C 事实细节题。从其次段第三句可知答案。 30.Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. One of the marketing ideas is variety. B. The milkman now delivers more bread than milk. C. Milkmen have taken over many rounds given up by bakeries. D. Some milkmen deliver potatoes in addition to dairy products. 答案与解析 B 事实推断题。从第三段其次句可知答案,故选B。 31.According to the passage,in this decade________. A. milkmen will not appear popular in Britain B. flavored milk will become popular in Britain C. people will buy milk from selfservice stores D. there will be little change in the dairy business 答案与解析 D 细节理解题。从最终一段的第四句可知答案,故选D。 D To see the world is one thing;to have someone to share it with is another.Indeed, travel becomes more interesting when you have a travel partner.A travel partner can be a close friend,a family member,a pal you've met online,or a business friend. You can have someone to talk to. Travelling alone is fun, but wouldn't you feel lonely? Having a travel partner can remove the feeling of loneliness. This is especially true if you can get a travel companion(伙伴) who is very familiar with the place you're travelling to.You don't have to ask any information from the locals, and you can increase the time you spend in the country. ___________________________________________________________ One of the major headaches in travelling is the costs involved. You can't simply ignore the rising price of hotels or plane tickets. You should also think about your daily needs, such as your food.Of course, you can't simply go back without bringing any souvenirs(纪念品)to your friends and family. All these can ruin(毁掉) your budget(预算).However, when you have a travel friend, you can have someone to share the expenses(花费) with. You can meet a good friend. Having a travel mate is a good way of meeting a new friend or even a lifelong partner. You can never count the number of couples who actually found their way into each other's heart while travelling together in another country. You can have someone to watch out for you. When you're in a foreign land, you'll never be really safe. You don't know the rules as well as the culture of the people.A travel mate will be perfect to remind
