Text 10
The best way of learning a language is to use it. The best way to learn English is speaking it as much as possible. Sometimes you will get your words mixed up and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can't understand them. But if you keep your sense of humour, you can always have a good laugh about the mistakes you make. Don't be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It is much better for people to be laughing at your mistakes than to be angry because they don't understand what you are saying. The most important rule for learning English is, “Don't be afraid of making mistakes; everyone makes mistakes.”
A
When the recent research was analyzed (分析), it was found that a lot of people wanted free pictures or free music from the Web. If it couldn't be free, then they wanted it “new” or at least at a low price. It seems that 70 percent of people aged 16 to 24 download music online but only 1 in 40 tracks are bought legally.
Thus, some companies are planning to give all of their music away for free. The music will be totally free except that you will have to pay with your time by watching advertisements. This will be perfect for those who have lots of time but little money.
The Web has encouraged a belief that things can be free, or at least very cheap. It seems that everyone is looking for a good deal on the Web. The desire for free objects is part of the nature of the Web because the Web is about selfservice and selfservice is all about being free, cheap, fast and convenient. It's interesting how words change their meaning. Stealing has now become file sharing, but it's not really stealing, is it?
Free is a funny word. We all know that very little is really for free. If we go searching on the Web for free music, we know — or should know — that there are risks involved. However, it doesn't matter. We still want free things, or at least the sense that we're getting a real bargain and that at a minimum we're saving time.
What can be the worst experience on the Web? A site that charges us high prices and wastes our time.
21.What is the best title for the text?
A. The Nature of the Web
B. The Web and the Culture of “Free”
C. Stealing and File Sharing
D. What Does the Word “Free” Mean

22.Why do some companies “sell” their music for free?
A. Their music is not popular and is out of date.
B. Most people have lots of time but little money.
C. Their music can't be sold new or for a low price.
D. They can earn money from the advertisements added in the music.
答案与解析 C 依据其次段中的“The music will be totally free except that you will have to pay with your time by watching advertisements.”
23.Which of the following can best describe the belief of the Web?
A. Risky behaviour. B. Stealing.
C. File sharing. D. For fun.
答案与解析 B 依据第三段中“Stealing has now become file sharing.”“偷”已经变成了文件共享。B项正确。

It's a warm summer afternoon. You're cooking up the catch of the day over a campfire. Suddenly, a few raindrops fall on your arms, and before you know it, the sky is opened up. Then you hear what sounds like thunder in the distance. What should you do? Your tent is close by and would offer shelter(遮挡 )from the pouring rain. There's a campsite picnic shelter a few minutes down the path. And then you remember that your car is parked down the road. What's your safest choice to make sure you and your families are safe?
It's a common question for many hikers and campers, especially when they are camping during summer months. Heading to your car is almost always the safest choice. Your tent and a picnic shelter will keep you dry, but they offer little or no protection against lightening. Your car, on the other hand, will keep you dry and protect you from lightening strikes. Protecting yourself against possible lightening strikes is very important; lightening kills an average of 62 people in the US each year. If you keep all of the windows and doors closed in your car, you'll be able to return to your campsite safely.
Of course, if you're backpacking (背包旅行), not car camping, and you're deep in the woods, your car won't be a good choice. So, what should you do if your car is far away and there's no other safe shelter nearby? First, you'll have to make sure that tree limbs or other objects don't fall on you or your campsite. Then you'll have to get in a safe position to avoid lightening, or flash flood conditions. What else should you do?

A. when camping learning to protect oneself is very important
B. people should never camp deep in the woods
C. backpacking is not a good choice for campers
D. people should not go camping alone

27.Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Campers like car camping best.
B. Young people like backpacking best.

As is known to us, Washington University in St. Louis became the first college in the United States to ban (禁止) selling bottled water in 2022. Since then, more than a dozen small colleges and schools have done the same. The ban isn't because the schools don't want students to have easy access to water. Instead, the goal is to encourage students to bring reusable bottles to save money and, more importantly, to save the environment.
Many people believe that producing and using bottled water not only wastes money but also harms the environment. They say that bottled water is unnecessary because public water supplies in the U. S. are among the best in the world. These people believe that water fountains and reusable bottles with easy access to filling stations are a better choice.
But the makers of bottled water argue that plastic bottles make up a small part of the nation's total waste. They say it's unfair to single out (单独挑出) their product when so many other items are packaged (包装) in plastic containers, and what's more, water is a healthy choice compared to some sodas and juices that are also sold at school.
What do you think: Should sales of bottled water be banned from schools? We want to hear your opinion. Write a 200word response. Send it to tfkasks4you@. Your response may be published in a future issue of Time For Kids. Please include your grade level and contact information for your parent or teacher if you want your response to be published. The deadline (截止时间) for responding is August 31, 2022.
28.Some colleges and schools ban selling bottled water in order to ________.
A. save water
B. encourage students to bring water from home
C. reduce pollution
D. keep students away from bottled water
29.The main disadvantage of bottled water is probably that ________.
A. it is too expensive
B. it is not fresh
C. it's not convenient to carry
D. its bottle can't be reused
30.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Bottled water is healthier.
B. Sodas and juices are of great harm.
C. Students think it unfair to ban selling bottled water.
D. The makers of bottled water are against banning selling bottled water.

D. wish more schools to ban selling bottled water
A项正确。

Still seeking a destination for your weekend break? There are some places which are probably a mere walk away from your college.
King' s Art Centre
A day at the Centre could mean a visit to an exhibition of the work of one of the most interesting contemporary artists on show anywhere. This weekend sees the opening of an exhibition of four local artists.
You could attend a class teaching you how to ‘learn from the masters’ or get more creative with paint — free of charge.
The Centre also runs two life drawing classes for which there is a small fee.
The Botanic Garden
The Garden has over 8,000 plant species; it holds the research and teaching collection of living plants for Cambridge University.
The multibranched Torch Aloe here is impressive. The African plant produces red flowers above bluegreen leaves, and is not one to miss.
Get to the display house to see Dionaea muscipula, a plant more commonly kn
