When I think of you, my heart skips a beat and my knees grow weak. I need you. I want you. I long for you. We've shared moments of real joy when I've given myself to you. In the kitchen. On the couch. In my bedroom. But my family and friends are starting to get worried. You've changed me. I do not like the person I see in the mirror. I've stopped going to the beach because I want you with me at all times and you can't stand the heat. I no longer enjoy shopping with my girlfriends because I can see you on every inch of my body and so can they. I cannot hide my love affair with you any more because it is written all over my face. And my arms. And my legs. And my abdomen(腹部). Being with you has been great. The satisfaction I get from one night with you is unlike any other. Although, the regret and disappointment I now experience in the morning is increasing. I am writing this letter to you because I know that I am not strong enough to see you again. You are harmful and bad for me. I need a clean break. I cannot see you any more no matter how hard you try to win me back. I know you are everywhere but I will be strong. Your inviting smell can no longer attract me. Your ability to know exactly what I want when I want it can no longer win me over. This is not going to be easy and I know I am going to miss you more than anything I've ever given up before. But I will be better for it in the end. So,I am writing to you with passion(激情),begging you to stay out of my life. We've had fun together but it's time I got over you. Goodbye, my love. Goodbye, chocolate. 21.Why has the author stopped going to the beach? A. Because she can't stand the heat on the beach. B. Because her family and friends may get worried. C. Because she no longer enjoys going out with her friends. D. Because it's not a suitable place for carrying chocolate. 22.What does the underlined sentence “I need a clean break” probably mean? A. It's time for me to break the mirror. B. It's time for me to stop eating chocolate. C. I need to eat chocolate in a clean place. D. I need to go out to enjoy a good holiday. 23.From the letter we can infer that ________. A. the author has been getting fatter B. the author has broken up with her girlfriends C. the author sometimes suffers from heart troubles D. the author will soon go abroad on vacation 24.By writing the letter, the author intends ________. A. to say goodbye to her lover B. to tell us a moving love story C. to show her love of chocolate D. to give up eating her favorite food B Color is considered one of the most useful and powerful design tools you have. People respond to different colors in different ways. Colors tell someone if you are friendly. In the same way they will affect whether someone will continue clicking through your website. Colors will determine if someone will start reading your article in a magazine or posted on your website. Color also helps to keep people involved on your website and how long they stay. Of course that's not just about the content. Colors also influence how people will respond and behave. A black background on your website now represents sixtype of websites. It is important that if that isn't your focus, you don't use a black background. The next time you go into a fastfood restaurant, look closely at the colors. Do they decorate with vivid reds and oranges because they encourage diners to eat and leave quickly like many of the fastfood establishments (确立)? That is exactly the response they want. Different cultures have different attitudes and preferences; thus they will have another color reaction. In China, “white” stands for death and in Brazil, it is the color purple while in America it is black. People from warm countries respond favorably to warm colors;people from colder climates prefer the cooler colors. In America, green is associated with jealousy (嫉妒) or money. Blue (most popular) is associated with trust, reliability, belonging and coolness. This also means that color affects shopping habits. Different colors will attract different kinds of customers. Red, orange, black and royal blue attract impulse buyers. Pink, teal, light blue and navy attract smart budget shoppers. It is really a great exercise to experience this. Why not click on the following large companies' websites that have spent the funds on this type of research now? 25.This passage mainly tells us ________. A. colors affect people in many different ways B. what colors mean for people from different countries C. which kind of color will do good to people's health D. a good website should have as many kinds of colors as possible 26.Which kind of color do most people in America like best? A. Black. B. Green. C. Blue. D. White. 27.The passage is probably taken from ________. A. a book B. a website C. a newspaper D. a magazine 28.What will the writer talk about in the next paragraph? A. To introduce what color means in different countries. B. To give more examples about successful restaurants. C. To tell us how to use color in our daily life. D. To offer some large companies' websites. C People who regularly drink green tea may have a less risk of mental decline as they grow older, researchers have found. Their study, of more than 1,000 Japanese adults in their 70s and beyond, found that the more green tea men and women drank, the lower their chances of having cognitive impairment. The findings build on evidence from lab experiments showing that something contained in green tea may protect brain cells from the damaging processes. But while those studies were carried out in animals and test tubes, the new research appears to be the first to find a lower risk of mental decline among green tea drinkers, according to the study authors. They guess that the possible protective effects of green tea may help explain Japan's lower rate of Alzheimer's disease, compared with Europe and North America. Dr. Shinichi Kuriyama and colleagues at Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine report the findings in the current issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study included 1,003 adults aged 70 and older who completed detailed questionnaires on their diets over the previous month, as well as their overall physical health and lifestyle habits. They also completed a standard test about memory, attention, language use and so on. The researchers found that older adults who drank two or more cups of green tea per day were about half as likely to show cognitive impairment as those who drank three cups or less each week. Men and women who averaged one cup per day fell somewhere in between. “We think that the potential protective effects of green tea should be confirmed in further studies,” Kuriyama said. 29.The passage mainly tells us that ________. A. we must drink green tea every day B. green tea is the best drink for our health C. green tea may protect the aging brain D. we cannot be sure of the advantages of drinking green tea 30.The underlined part “cognitive impairment” in the first paragraph probably refers to ________. A. mental decline B. disability to drink C. protection from green tea D. becoming older 31.Which of the following would the writer probably agree to? A. Europeans have a higher rate of becoming old. B. Japanese may like drinking green tea better than people in North America. C. Studies about green tea were carried out only in humans in the past. D. Researchers only studied people who are 70 years old. D Employees are being flooded with too much information that has little to do with their work, according to a new survey. On average, whitecollar workers spend 51 percent of their work time receiving and processing information. Only one third of it was relevant to their work, the survey found. Information overload for whitecollar workers has become a global issue. The huge amount of information has already affected their efficiency in management as well as their performance at work. Buried with emails Every morning, a secretary at the human resources department of an auto parts company opens her email box, only to find it crammed with at least 50 unread mails. For her, even scanning through these emails every day takes at least half an hour. Some of her colleagues are not so lucky — they have to read at least 100. Bothered with calls Telephone calls are also causing a problem. More than 40 percent whitecollar workers choose mobile phones as the preferred way to communicate important and urgent business matters. Talking saves time and energy over the clicking, reading and replying to emails, but phone calls are also more distracting (分心的). While answering a call, a clerk is likely to put away a much more important task at hand and start the business being talked about on the phone. Solution? Not yet Many companies start with providing staff with better computers, better Internet access and more advanced gadgets (小装置). For example, staff members above a certain level in one company will be provided with a blackberry phone for easier access to their emails. The company has also organized many lectures on efficient ways of email management. Yet most whitecollar workers think their companies can do more. 32.What does the new survey find about whitecollar workers? A. They spend 51 percent of their work time on meetings. B. Some of them have to read at least 100 emails every day. C. Only half of the information they received is useful. D. Over 60 percent of them prefer to use the telephone. 33.Telephone calls cause a problem because ________. A. they take up the time to receive and send emails B. they are often not answered C. they are mostly not about business D. they may lead to change of work schedule 34.How do some companies try to solve the problem of information overload? A. They start to give staff a pay rise. B. They plan to employ more people. C. They provide employees with more advanced equipment. D. They organize lectures on how to reduce stress. 35.What is the major issue discussed in this text? A. Poor management leads to inefficiency at work. B. Junk mail is causing big trouble. C. Whitecollar workers suffer from information overload. D. Better computers are in need in workplaces. 第二节 (共5个小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的内容选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳答案,选项中有两项为多余选项.
