小编这几天闲来无事，找出了一大堆英文老歌儿打发时间，偶然间再遇不老天后麦当娜的经典之作，《Don’t cry for me Argentina》，其中有这样几句歌词引起了小编的注意：
You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you

哎？没想到啊，短短的两句歌词里出现了两个跟数字有关的短语，它们的含义可不是字面上那么简单。

首先是dressed to the nines，九作为个位数中最大的一个，用在这里形容穿着的重视程度也是很贴切，牛津在线词典的解释为“dressed very elaborately”，即“精心打扮”。

at sixes and sevens则类似于中文里的“乱七八糟”，牛津在线词典解释为： In a state of total confusion or disarray，即“处于困惑或混乱的状态”。

1. Put two and two together：Draw an obvious conclusion from what is known or evident. （通过证据或已知条件得出结论。）这个词组经常接着 make five，即put two and two together and make five。2+2=5，小朋友们都知道这是错误的，这个短语表达的意思就是“从已知条件和证据中得出了错误的结果”。

4. Six of one and half a dozen of the other：Used to convey that there is little real difference between two alternatives，论“6个”和“半打”的区别，那就是没啥区别呗。中文里也有对应的表达：半斤对八两。

5. Have one over the eight：have one drink too many，相传普通人最多喝8品脱的啤酒而不醉，超过这个数字，就要喝醉了~

6. The eleventh hour：The latest possible moment，关键时刻，紧要关头

7. Forty winks：A short sleep, especially during the day，指打盹或者小睡，近义词还包括zizz 和dogsleep等。
