other家族辨析

other家族属于不定代词，家族成员如下表。

other家族分三大派系：
一类是以other为老大的“S与the”派系；
一类是与one、some结亲的“搭配”派系；
一类是独成一派的another。
例如:
These are my books, others (= other books） are yours.
What other things (= others） can you see?
Some boys are reading books， other boys (= others) are watching TV.
Some are listening to the radio， others are watching TV.
He may fall behind the other students when he comes back.
He may fall behind other students when he comes back.

There are thirty students in our class。 Twenty are from Beijing. Others are from Shanghai.
There are 67 students in my sister’s class。 Nineteen are boys， the others are all girls.

二、与one、some结亲的“搭配”派系
（1)one…， the other… 两者范围内的“一个……，另一个……"
one …, the others… 三者及以上范围内的“一个……，其余所有……”

He has two pairs of sneakers. One is Nike shoes, the other is Adidas.
My sister has two skirts。 One is yellow, the other is black。
the other作定语时，后可加单数名词，也可加复数名词，此时的other作形容词。
例如：
On the other side of the street,there is a tall tree.
Mary is much taller than the other girls.

(2)some…， the others… 一些……，其余所有……（the others强调剩余全部）
some …others… 一些……，其他一些……（others暗指其余部分）
Some are reading books， others are doing homework。

三、独成一派的another
another“另一个，再一个，又一个”
another=an+ other，既可作形容词,也可作代词，表示增加,泛指三者或三者以上中的“另一个"，只能代替或修饰单数可数名词.
例如：
You have had several cakes。 Do you really want another one？
I don’t like this one。 Please show me another.
除了other家族外，与other有关的其他短语也是考试中的热点，需要我们仔细区分。
（1)与other有关的其他短语
the other day = a few days ago 几天前,那天every other day/week/year 每隔一天/周/年
any other + 单数 其他……的任何一个each other = one another 互相
from one…to another 从一个……到另一个another （one） = one more再一个
another two = two more 再要两个,还要两个
例如：
I met Mr. Smith in the park the other day.
While at the university, he went to the library every other day.
He is taller than any other student in his class.
We need another three people to finish the work。
（2）other与else区别:都表示“其他的”,但else只能用于复合不定代词和疑问词之后。
