For Tan Fanglin, a 15-year-old girl from No. 2 High School of East China Normal University in Shanghai, her dream of meeting top scientists has already come true. In October 2019, she attended the World Laureates Forum for a second time, which had attracted 44 Nobel Prize Winners and 21 other world-class award winners. Tan was by far the youngest participant among the scientists invited to be at the meeting of the world’s sharpest minds. Her discovery about the relationship between the Fibonacci sequence (斐波那契数列) and Bézout numbers (贝祖数) has won her many prizes in youth innovation competitions both in Shanghai and elsewhere in China. Her finding has been praised by the famous Canadian mathematician, Professor Rankin, who has been studying the same theme for five years but with no conclusions. From a very young age, Tan has always been fascinated by mathematics. This is largely because her father, who teaches mathematics in East China Normal University, has a profound impact on her. According to Xu Jun, the head teacher, Tan doesn’t take after-school classes or too many extra exercises either. Her mastering of Advanced Mathematics and her good grades in school are thanks to the right study method. Her mother told Guangming Daily that Tan always treats studying and life with a positive state of mind so she can feel happy while studying. Attending this forum enabled Tan to get more inspiration from top scientists. She even got the opportunity to talk with Gero Miesenbock, the 2019 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize winner. She asked Professor Miesenbock what he considered were the best personal qualities for conducting scientific research. Miesenbock encouraged her not to lose her passion and love for what she does. He said that accepting failures is crucial for researchers. He stressed that people all knew that even Thomas Edison went through hundreds of unsuccessful attempts before finally inventing the light bulb. The words made Tan feel inspired and she promised to keep her curiosity and interest in mathematics and over come any obstacles in her research. 24. In this day and age, we have calorie and nutritional calculators even on our smartphones, but they act only as guides, whereas Panasonic's revolutionary new device, CaloRieco, actually analyzes the food on your plate and provides accurate information about in just a few seconds. You've probably used calorie calculators before, and you know that they only offer general information. For example, a calculator will tell you the average number of calories in a hamburger, but it can't tell you exactly how many calories are in the hamburger. The same goes for nutrients like protein or fats. And this is what makes the new CaloRieco so special. Displayed at a recent tech show, CaloRieco is a high-tech device that uses light reflection technology to determine the nutritional values of almost any food and also provide accurate calorie estimates. All you have to do is put your plate in the box-shaped device and wait between10 and 20 seconds for it to analyze all the food on there. Once it's done analyzing the various ingredients in your meal, CaloRieco displays the number of calories, as well as the nutritional content on an LED display. According to Panasonic, the device is able to recognize the vast majority of foods, except soups and very dark dishes. CaloRieco can also connect to your smartphone via an app, and send all the data about analyzed foods to your handheld, so you can access it whenever you need. Panasonic said that its outstanding invention is aimed at dieters and diabetes sufferers, both of which make up a sizable market. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on your very own CaloRieco, as the device presented at the show is just a prototype(样品)which needs to be improved. It's scheduled to hit the market sometime in the next few years, but the price remains a mystery. 28. What is special about CaloRieco? A. It is a high-tech device working as a guide B. In fact, if experts are to be believed, multitasking is a disastrous(灾难性的) idea. One of the opponents of multitasking is Dr. Clifford Nass, a professor at Stanford University. “People who multitask frequently are less able to pay attention; they’re worse at managing their memory.” he said. In his opinion, the loss that we get with multitasking is harmless in some situations, for example, part of doing business in the digital world: but you can’t do serious work like writing, thinking or solving an important problem this way. You do worse even as you think you’re doing better. All the time the research points to a simple fact: the brain cannot cope. When you stop midway through composing a report to check an email, you force your brain to stop and regroup. It is like pressing the pause button during a movie, meaning the film takes longer to watch. And as for Dr. Nass, the problems extend beyond the brain. Young people who frequently multitask are not as socially and emotionally healthy as those who don’t. They just feel more emotionally satisfied and the feeling is so good and they are bound to desire it again. Todd Oppenheimer, a writer said “We’ve become a very short-term society and don’t reward people for taking a lot of time on something.” He fears we may end up losing the next generation of great thinkers. “It’s really unfortunate because the long-term challenges of our world — environmental issues, financial issues — require people to think wisely about the long-term consequences of what they do. And it’s no coincidence that the kind of people who do think long-term don’t multitask.” 32.According to Dr. Nass, multitasking __________. A.can be performed using digital tools B.contributes to memorizing various things C.may result in losing the next generation of great thinkers D.makes the performance emotionally affected only 33.From the passage, we can tell __________. A.the loss that we get with multitasking is harmless B.we mistakenly believe that we’re doing better by switching between tasks C.doing multitasking does harm to us in every area D.for every task you add to your multitasking, you can finish your goal quicker 34.Which of the following is a multitasking addict(成瘾者)? A.You turn your cellphone to silence when you’re out to dine with friends. B. You watch from start to finish without distraction when playing a DVD. C.You have your office desk covered with paperwork from various unfinished projects. D.You feel that when you try to do too much at once, the result always suffers. 35.The author mainly wants to tell us __________. A.it takes longer for us to become a great thinker B.the less you switch, the better you do C.it is more efficient to do things all in a mixed way D.we shouldn’t be lazy if we want to accomplish many tasks 第二节 七选五 (共5小题;每小题2 分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Having a happier life is something we all always long for.
