Text 1
M:Excuse me,may I sit here? I mean, are these seats taken?
W:No, they aren't. Go ahead, please.
Text 2
W:You went to the theatre last night, and what do you think of the actor who played Hamlet?
M:Oh, I think he did a great job.
Text 3
W:I'm sorry, but there's no smoking on this flight.
M:Oh, sorry. I didn't know that.
Text 4
M:Hey, Lucy. When will you leave for New York?
W:Er... Today is Monday. I will leave for New York the day after tomorrow.
Text 5
M:I'm really worried about my chemistry exam tomorrow.
W:Well,I've finished some homework, so I could probably help you for a little while.
Text 6
W:Hello, Patrick! Which class are you working on right now?
M:Hi, Jenny! I'm studying for my chemistry exam tomorrow.
W:Are you in Mrs Green's class?
M:Yes. What about you?
W:I'm, too. We must have the same exam tomorrow!
M:Do you want to study together?
W:Sure. This library is not quiet though.
M:Do you want to go to an empty classroom?
W:That sounds good.
M:OK. Let's go.
Text 7
W:I think it's very important to relax because if you don't, you can get too stressed. What do you think?
M:Yes, I think so. Once I even got ill because I was too stressed out studying for exams! But what do you do to relax?
W:Well, sometimes I go to my room and lie down and listen to my favorite music, or read a book. What about you?
M:If I want to relax, I often play computer games.
W:I don't think computer games are relaxing—they can be so exciting and then it's difficult to stop playing.
M:It's not a problem for me. It's good fun. I sometimes play until midnight.
W:Really? That's too bad for your health. You'd better not stay up for it again. Going out is a better way. I sometimes like to take my dog for a long walk in the country or a park. That makes me feel healthy and relaxed.
M:I agree with you.
Text 8
W:Have you heard that the boss of the law office where Rick works wants him to fly to Brazil to do a month's work there?
M:That's nice. He'll love it because everything will be paid for, such as air travel, meals, hotels and this is his first time to get out of the States.
W:Indeed, you won't believe how much he is looking forward to it and how much his little sister admires him. He is going to enjoy lying on the beaches when work is done, and he promises to buy his sister gifts.
M:Who else is going besides him?
W:He's going alone.
M:When will he be leaving?
W:He was told about it three days ago. And I think he will leave in a week.
Text 9
W:I would like to know how to make out this check.
M:Right. Erm...do you want to draw out some money?
W:Yes. £200.
M:£200. OK. Well, the first thing you need to do is write today's date and the year in the top right-hand corner where you see the line. You must put the year in. And can you see over on the left-hand side?
W:The first...line?
M:That's it. On the first line it says PAY and you write CASH afterwards.
W:In letters?
M:Yes. CASH, you write CASH, OK? Then right below that, you have to write the amount of money you want. So just two hundred pounds and then you write ONLY at the end in words. Then at the end of that line where you can see the box, see over on the right-hand side and you have to write the amount you want in numbers. And then below the box, the last thing you have to do in the bottom right-hand corner is just write your signature.
W:OK. Thank you very much.
Text 10
Good afternoon. I'm John Holland, housing director here at the university. I'm visiting all the dormitories this week to inform students about checkout procedures. I know you have a lot on your mind with finals coming up, but there are a few things you need to be aware of, as you prepare to leave for vacation. This dormitory will be closed during the summer months and will reopen in September. You must vacate your room by June 3rd. And you should remember to turn in your room key before you leave. Failure to return your key can result in a 25-dollar fine. You must also make sure that all of your personal things have been cleared out of your room. I'll be handing out a form for you to fill out concerning the condition of your room. You should report on the form any damage to your room which has occurred over the last year, such as holes in the room's walls, door or windows. That way, we will know where to make repairs before the next school year starts. If you have any questions, please call my office.

National Space Center, Leicester
An interactive museum of supersize space experiences: from a giant planet Earth you can touch the UK's biggest domed planetarium (圆顶天文馆) and a 42-meter rocket tower. You can't miss the latter as you drive into Leicester—the structure looks like it's wrapped in giant inflatable pillows. Inside, it houses Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets. Take in the full scale of them by riding a glass-sided lift up to the viewing platform. Elsewhere, there are six galleries with plenty of buttons to press and screens to touch. It's all under cover so it's a good place to visit on a rainy day!
What about lunch?
The Boosters Cafe serves reasonably priced hot and cold snacks and drinks (hot dogs from £4.95, plus jacket potatoes, soups, sandwiches and salads) at the foot of the center's two rockets. The cafe offers vegetarian and vegan options too.
Getting there
There is a regular bus service (No. 54) with a stop two minutes' walk from the center, as well as a park-and-fide service from Birstall. East Midlands Trains and Cross-Country Trains operate services to the Leicester station, from which the center is a 25-minute bus ride. If you drive, it's just off the A6, north of the city center. Parking is £3 for the day.
Value for money
It's not cheap—adults: £15, 5 to 16-year-olds: £12, but once you've paid you can revisit as many times as you want in a year, and admission is free for kids under five.
Opening hours
10 a.m.—4 p.m. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekends and school holidays.
21.Which of the following CANNOT be found when you visit the National Space Center? A
A.A big inflatable pillow.
B.A domed planetarium.
C.The Boosters Cafe.
D.A high rocket tower.
22.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article? C
A.Visitors can arrive at the entrance to the center by only taking the No. 54 bus.
B.It takes visitors 25 minutes to get to the center from the Leicester station by riding a bike.
C.Snacks and drinks are served at reasonable prices.
D.Although the parking fee is reasonable, there are limited parking lots.
根据What about lunch?部分中的“serves reasonably priced hot and cold snacks and drinks”可知,快餐和饮料价格合理。
23.If a couple want to take their daughter, a primary school student, and their 15-year-old son to the space center, how much will they spend on the tickets? D
A.£45. B.£57.
C.£42. D.£54.

Every so often, someone so young does something so amazing that you can't help but wonder how he manages it. That's what happened the first time we heard Matthew Whitaker play the piano. Matthew is a jazz pianist who is blind, and since the age of 11, he's been performing around the world.
Matthew Whitaker was born at the 24th week. He weighed 1 pound and 11 ounces. His parents were told he had a less than 50% chance of survival. One of the many complications (并发症) he faced was a disease which led to blindness.
No one in Matthew's family was a musician, but his grandfather bought him his first keyboard when he was three years old. It didn't take long for Matthew to show that he had a gift. So the Whitakers decided to get Matthew a teacher, which proved to be difficult. “At the time, we got a lot of answers that he's too young and they don't know how to teach a blind child,” Moses Whitaker said. “He was three years old at the time.”
Finally, Dalia Sakas agreed to meet Matthew. Dalia is the director of music studies at a music school in New York City, a school for the visually impaired. To her surprise, Matthew could listen to a piece of music once and then play it. “Because it is rare to meet such a person and I want to make that possible.”
She did. Matthew has played in more than 200 clubs and concert halls around the world. His love of music has never been in doubt. Matthew's latest album is called Now Hear This. One critic noted that it sounded like Matthew was playing with six hands.
24.Which word best describes Matthew as a pianist? C
A.Fruitless. B.Ordinary.
C.Remarkable. D.Ambitious.
25.What was the root cause of Matthew's blindness? A
A.His premature birth.
B.His low weight.
C.His low chance of survival.
D.A disease running in his family.
故选A。
26.What increased the difficulty finding Matthew a music teacher? C
A.His family background.
B.His lack of talent.
C.His age and disability.
D.His character.
27.Why did Dalia accept Matthew as her student? B
A. Because she sympathized with Matthew for his experience.
B.Because she was struck by Matthew's talent for music.
C.Because she gave in to the insistence of Matthew's grandfather.
D.Because she knew how to teach a blind student.
根据倒数第二段中的“To her surprise,Matthew could listen to a piece of music once and then play it.”

Since November last year, cyclists in the northern Dutch town, Krommenie, have been part of a revolutionary experiment—a length of 70 meters of the town's main bikeway has been resurfaced with a layer of glass tiles(地砖) treated with a nonslip coating. The panels, which are laid on a bed of concrete, are only one centimeter thick but it's what's inside the glass that makes them truly impressive—each individual section contains a solar cell and together they form one long energy production network.
There were a number of reasons to start with a bike path. One is that when you start an innovation like this you want a step that is doable, but still guarantees that things are pretty safe for road users. In a bike path, the loads are not too heavy and the requirements are not too severe. The Krommenie experiment has three goals. One is to see how it performs technically and what the energy production is. The second goal is to know what the satisfaction of the users is: do they have any kind of discomfort or negative perception (看法)? And the last thing is to see if the road managers are comfortable with this type of road which is completely new.
More than 150,000 cyclists have used the bike path in the first six months of its operation and the trial has met with no serious problems, even during recent testing using heavy weight vehicles. Some wear and tear on the non-slip coating was expected and has been repaired.
Despite the trial's promise, there is still one major problem to deal with—the initial cost of road construction using the solar panels is higher than it is for standard forms of surfacing. But the researchers predict that will come down when the technology enters mass production.
28.What does the underlined word “panels” in the first paragraph refer to? B
A.Bikeways. B.Glass tiles.
C.Solar cells. D.Non-slip coatings.
