Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in.
Ss look the pictures and fill in the blanks.
Step 2 Presentation.
1. Look and say. The teacher shows the pictures of new words and let the students to say the new words as quickly as possible.
2. Work in pairs. Let Ss say the meaning of the phrases as quickly as possible.
Step 3 Look and say.
Look at the picture and use the words from the box to say what’s happening at that time.
Step 4 Listening.
Listen to Activity 2 and read.
1. The driver was/was not going fast.
2. The driver was/was not looking.
3. The driver was/was not talking on his mobile phone.
Step 5 Reading.
1. Let Ss listen to the dialogue and answer the two questions. Then check in groups.
2. Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

1. You look pale.
pale表示“苍白的”,形容词。
look是感官动词。
look pale 看起来苍白
e.g. She has a pale face.
她脸色苍白。
2. A car suddenly appeared round the corner.
appear作动词,意为“出现”。 appear加前缀dis-构成其反义词disappear,意为“消失”。
e.g. A bus appeared round the corner.
一辆公交车出现在拐角处。
The plane disappeared behind a cloud. 飞机消失在一片云后面。
3. The car stopped just in time, but the boy fell off his bike and hurt his knee.
in time表示“及时”,just强调“刚刚,正好” 。表达“及时做某事”可以用in time to do sth.
与它类似的短语on time意为“准时”。
e.g. If we don’t hurry up, we won’t be in time to catch the train.
如果不抓紧时间的话,我们就来不及赶上火车了。
He never finishes his work on time.
他从未按时完成工作。
fell是fall的过去式。
fall off表示“从……跌落”。
e.g. He fell off the tree and hurt his leg.
他从树上跌落,摔伤了腿。
fall down表示“摔倒”。
e.g. You must watch your step so as not to fall down.
你必须留心脚下才不会跌下去。
4. Pay attention, stop at the red lights…
pay attention 表示“注意,留心”,后面
接名词或v.-ing形式作宾语时要借助介词 to,即“pay attention to+n. / v.-ing形式”。
e.g. You must pay attention to your study.你必须专心学习。
Please pay attention to spelling.
请注意拼写。
5. Don’t ride side by side with your friends.
side by side表示“并排的,肩并肩的”。
与它类似的短语还有one by one(一个接一个地),day by day(一天一天地)和step by step(逐步地)等。
e.g. They were walking side by side in the street. 他们肩并肩走在街上。
The students got on the bus one by one.

Step 8 Pronunciation and speaking.
1. Listen and mark when the speaker pauses.

掌握过去进行时的用法。
过去进行时
过去进行时表示过去某一时刻或时段正在进行或持续的动作,常和at ... last night, then, at that time等时间状语连用,也可以和when或while引导的过去时间状语从句连用。请仔细观察下面的例句,然后补全结论部分所缺的内容。
【例句】
1. When I got home, my family were having dinner.
2. While I was singing in the bedroom, someone knocked at the door.
3. Sam fell when he was riding his bike.
4. While Alice was watching TV in the living room, Betty was reading in the library.
【结论】
1. 通过观察例句1我们可以看出,主句的动作是延续性的,而从句的动作是终止性的,此时用________引导过去时间状语从句,主句用________(时态),从句用一般过去时。
2. 通过观察例句2和3我们可以看出,主句的动作是终止性的,从句的动作是延续性的,此时while和when都可以引导过去时间状语从句,主句用________(时态),从句用过去进行时。
3. 通过观察例句4我们可以看出,主句和从句的动作在过去的某时刻或某段时间同时发生,而且动作都是延续性的,此时多用________引导过去时间状语从句,而且主句和从句都用________(时态)。

climb out 表示“爬出来”。
climb out of …表示“从……爬出来”。

be doing …when …表示一个动作正在进行的时候另一个动作突然发生了。
此句强调“蛇又咬了我一口”这个动作。
e.g. They were working in the fields when it began to rain.
他们正在田里干活儿,突然下起雨了。
pick sth. up表示“捡起某物”,代词要放在中间。
pick sb. up 表示“接某人”。
e.g. He picked up his knife and fork.
他捡起了刀叉。
The next morning, my mum came to pick me up.
第二天早上, 妈妈来接我。
3. I threw it across the kitchen, and it landed on a table.
across是介词,在本句的意思是“从……的一边到另一边”, across还可以表示“对面,穿过”等。
e.g. The children ran across the street in front of our car.
这些孩子在我们的汽车前横冲过马路。
My best friend lives across the road.
我最好的朋友住在马路对面。
4. While the snake was lying on the table, Henry quickly picked up his mobile phone and took a photo with it.
while引导的时间状语从句用进行时。
当主句的时态是现在时,while引导的从句用现在进行时; 当主句的时态是过去时,while引导的从句用过去进行时。
e.g. While the boy was reading the book he found a secret.
男孩读书的时侯,他发现了一个秘密。
5. As the doctors were checking him, the pain get worse.
句中的as表示当……的时候,用来引导时间状语从句。
get worse表示“变得更糟”。
worse是bad的比较级,worst是最高级。
e.g. As time goes by, my memory seems to get worse.
随着时间的流逝,我的记忆力似乎越来越差。
6. As he was lying there in great pain, …
pain可表示肉体上的“疼痛”,也可表示精神上的“痛”:泛指疼痛时是不可数名词;特指身体某个部位疼痛时是可数名词,此时,常用于结构“have a pain / pains in ...”。
e.g. My brother had a pain in his back.
我哥哥背痛。
Jim had pains in his neck.
吉姆脖子疼。
in great pain表示“巨痛”
e.g. Mary’s grandparents left her, so she was in great pain.
玛丽的爷爷奶奶离开了她,她非常难过。
Step 7 Learning to learn
Learn about more knowledge about writing.
When you write, make sure you use the correct tense. Underline the time and the verb, and check if they agree.
For example:
I was having breakfast at seven o’clock yesterday morning.
I took a photo in the park yesterday.
