I suppose I am getting rather fat. Text 2 W:What do you think is most important in order to keep fit? M:Well,I think a balanced diet is necessary. Text 3 W:Do you really think that Tina is in debt? M:Not at all. I think that she's lying. Text 4 W:So what's wrong? M:I am a little overweight. What do you advise that I do? W:Well ,it's best if you can eat more fruits and vegetables than meat. M:I guess I do really need to change my diet. Thank you for the advice. Text 5 W:People like to eat fresh cucumbers ,onions and carrots in the northern part of China. M:Really? In my hometown, we like to eat cooked carrots and onions. W:I guess people in different places have different customs. M:Yes,that's true. Text 6 M:Good morning. What can I do for you? W:Oh,I have a stomachache and I feel just awful. M:What did you eat last night? W:At dinner I ate peas, beans, eggplant and mushrooms; afterwards I ate a peach and a lemon. M:Oh, that's the problem; you shouldn't have eaten so much. Text 7 M:Let's go to find something to eat. W:What are you going to have? M:I want some sausages, pork and beef. W:Are you sure? Consider your weight. It might be better to have some vegetables, such as this eggplant dish. M:You could be right, but I love meat,so it's hard to change. W:Well, just try a little. Step by step you can adjust your habits and have a balanced diet. M:You're right. I really should try. Text 8 M:Why are you sighing, sweetheart? W:Because I love to eat—but I am so fat. M:Don't worry so much—you look fine! W:But I 'm a girl. If girls are a little overweight, they suffer worse than men. I think people will avoid being friends with me because of it. M:Well,I guess it's right to be concerned, but don't worry—you can do something about it. You want my advice? W:OK, sure. What do you suggest? M:Well, if you just change your eating habits a bit, and have more vegetables and fruits, that will help a lot. Then work out a way to include a bit more exercise in your schedule. Don't do it all at once—just take it one step at a time. In no time you will be slim and fit. W:OK,I will set out to do this right now. Text 9 W:Did you hear that Bob was in hospital? M:Oh, really ? What happened? W:His blood pressure was really high. The problem seems to be his weight. M:Oh, that's too bad. Well,he does always prefer to eat meat rather than vegetables. W:I think he will have to change his eating habits after this. M:I think we really should go and see him. W:I think so too. How about the day after tomorrow? M:You mean Thursday? W:Yes. How about meeting here at 9:50 in the morning and setting out at 10:00? M:No problem. See you then. W:See you. Text 10 W:I'm so glad to meet you ,Professor Johnson. As an environmental expert, what do you think of the company's plan to build a chemical factory in the city? M:I don't really think it is a good idea. The water, the earth and, most importantly, the air will all be polluted if the new factory is built. W:But many people support this project because of the jobs it will create. M:Yes, I know. Finding jobs is quite hard nowadays, but I do hope that everyone will also consider the great harm the factory would do to our living environment. We need to realize the importance of the environment for our children and for future generations. Please consider whether it's worth having jobs that will destroy lives in the future. W:Yes,it is time for us to consider the wellbeing of our environment. Thank you for your time, Professor Johnson. This is Helen Bates with Daily News. See you tomorrow. A Welcome to your future life! You get up in the morning and look into the mirror. Your face is firm and younglooking. In 2035, medical technology is better than ever. Many people could live to be 150, so at 40, you're not old at all. And your parents just had an antiaging(抗衰老的) treatment. Now, all three of you look the same age! You say to your shirt, “Turn red.”It changes from blue to red. In 2035, “smart clothes” contain particles (粒子) much smaller than the cells in your body. The particles can be programmed to change your clothes' color or pattern. You walk into the kitchen. You pick up the milk, but a voice says,“You shouldn't drink that!” Your fridge has read the chip(芯片) that contains information about the milk, and it knows the milk is old. In 2035 ,every article of food in the grocery store has such a chip. It's time to go to work.In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your“smart car”where to go. On the way,you can call a friend using your jacket sleeve. Such“smart technology” is all around you. So will all these things come true? “For new technology to succeed,” says scientist Andrew Zolli,“it has to be so much better that it replaces what we have already.” The Internet is one example—what will be the next? 21.We can learn from the text that in the future________. A.people will never get old B.everyone will look the same C.red will be the most popular color D.clothes will be able to change their pattern 答案:D 细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句...change your clothes' color of pattern. 22.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4? A.Milk will be harmful to health. B.More drinks will be available for sale. C.Food in the grocery store will carry electronic information. D.Milk in the grocery store will stay fresh much longer. 根据第四段第三句中...the chip(芯片)that contains information...及最后一句...every article of food in the grocery store has such a chip.(…… 23.Which of the following is mentioned in the text? A.Nothing can replace the Internet. B.Fridges will know what people need. C.Jacket sleeves can be used as a guide. D. Cars will be able to drive automatically. 24.What is the text mainly about? A.Food and clothing in 2035. B.Future technology in everyday life. C.Medical treatments of the future. D.The reason for the success of new technology. B It wasn't until I was much older that I would find something that I would consider as evidence of my father's love. When the Commodore 64 personal computer came onto the market, I convinced myself that I had to have it even though its price was out of my mother's range. So I decided to earn the money myself. I mowed every lawn I could find that summer for a few dollars each, yet it still wasn't enough. So my dad agreed to help me raise the rest of the money by driving me to one of the watermelon farms south of town, loading up his truck with wholesale watermelons and driving me around to sell them. He came for me before daybreak. We made small talk, but it didn't matter. The fact that he was talking to me was all that mattered. I was a teenager by then, but this was the first time that I had ever spent time alone with him. He laughed and repeatedly introduced me as “my boy”, a phrase he relayed with a sense of pride. It was one of the best days of my life. Although he had never told me that he loved me, I would consider that day as the greatest evidence of that_fact. He just didn't know how to love me right. He wasn't a mean man. So I took these random episodes and clung to them like a thing most precious, storing them away for the long periods of coldness when a warm memory would prove most useful. It just goes to show that no matter how distant the father, no matter how deep the damage, no matter how broken the relationship, there is still time, still space, still a need for even the smallest bit of evidence of a father's love. 25.The author finally managed to get the Commodore 64 personal computer ________. A.with the money he asked his mother for B.by getting well paid from mowing lawns C.by selling watermelons in the neighborhood D.with his hard work and his father's assistance 答案:D 细节理解题。 26.The author had never spent time alone with his father probably because ________. A.his father was always busy with work B.his father didn't live with him C.they didn't get along well at first D.his father didn't know how to love him 答案:B 推理判断题。根据第三段的第一句“He came for me before daybreak.” 27.What do the underlined words “that fact” in the fourth paragraph refer to? A.he loved me B.he disliked talking with me C.he didn't know how to love me D.he wasn't a mean man 答案:A 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“It wasn't until I was much older that I would find something that I would consider as evidence of my father's love.”和画线部分前面的“he loved me”以及最后一段中的“still a need for even the smallest bit of evidence of a father's love”可推知,“that fact”指的是“he loved me”。 28.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A.The Best Days of My Life B.Father and Son C.The Story of My Father D.Evidence of Love 答案:D 主旨大意题。 C Maurizio Porfiri, a mechanical engineer at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, is also making robots that look like animals. But he has a different goal—to help the real animals. Porfiri has always been interested in animals. When he was growing up, one of his favorite activities was going to the zoo. But he also liked the robots he saw in Japanese cartoons. So when he started his own lab, he decided to combine his two interests. Porfiri's team builds robots that look like fish. These researchers want their machines to be convincing enough for real fish to accept the robots as part of their group. That way, the robots could lead fish away from dangerous areas, such as oil spills. To find out if fish would accept a robotic leader, Porfiri's team had to first build a fishshaped machine. Its flexible tail can flap back and forth, propelling the robot forward. In order for real animals to interact with this device, it needs to be seen as something that looks like them and swims like them, explains Porfiri. The researchers put the robot in a water channel in their lab and made the robot's tail beat at different speeds. Then they added real fish called golden shiners and measured how much time the fish spent in swimming close to the robot. They also noted whether the fish swam in front of or behind the robot. If the robot's tail wasn't beating, the fish didn't pay much attention. But when the robot's tail moved at a certain speed, the fish began swimming behind it. Porfiri thinks the fish follow the robot because it makes swimming easier for them. “The_fish_like_to_ride_the_wake_of_the_robot,” he says. Not all fish followed the robot, though. Porfiri's team is now trying to figure out why. Engineers might need to use several different robots, each attracting or repelling different fish, to attract as many followers as possibl
