Ariana Grande and Kanye West, told the Associated Press Wednesday that he is planning a benefit concert for those affected by this week’s terrible storm. Braun’s partner in planning the event is Bun B, a Houston native and rapper best known for his work with the foundational southern duo UGK. The concert is planned for Sept. 12 and is “tentatively scheduled” to be televised on four networks. Braun was behind the successful One Love Manchester concert earlier this year, which drew the largest television audience—14.5 million—of the year at the time and raised $3 million to support victims of the Manchester Arena bombing outside an Ariana Grande concert on May 22 that killed 22 and wounded dozens more. The artist Solange, also a Houston native, announced another benefit concert to be held next month at Boston’s Oprheum Theatre on Sept. 28, featuring The Sun Ra Arkestra as part of her Orion’s Rise concert series. “I’m committed to partnering with organizations on the ground in Houston and making contributions to cheer up the stricken city that raised me with so much love.” The singer also added an additional show at Radio City Music Hall, of which $3 from each ticket will go towards storm relief efforts. Solange’s sister Beyonce is also working, through her Be Y GOOD charitable organization, on relief efforts, though details aren’t known. “She has done a lot that she has requested we shouldn’t announce,” the Rev. Rudy Rasmus of Houston’s St. John’s church, said recently. A Facebook post of the pop star who simply read “BE Y GOOD HOUSTON” earlier today drew some 254, 125 likes in 52 minutes this morning. Many celebrities and companies announced their intentions to donate this week, with many opting to route their money towards the Red Cross. However, the organization said that it can’t quantify how many of those dollars go towards relief efforts. At least 25 have died and tens of thousands have been displaced by the storm. 1、What is the purpose of the concert organized by Scooter Braun and Bun B on Sept. 12? A.To support victims killed and wounded in a bombing. B.To announce the return and reunion of a band. C.To support victims of the terrible storm. But what if we see an animal in trouble, does the same rule apply? This question was raised after a group of penguins were saved from an icy gully(峡谷)in Antarctica. It was filmed for the BBC wildlife series Dynasties. The film crew were anxious when they saw that a group of penguins had fallen into a gully and been trapped with their young. They built a slope(斜坡)so that a few of the penguins could save themselves. The case has taken the international media by storm. Viewers watching this film let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad. I understand not taking action directly, but a helping hand isn’t bothering, right?” viewer Kathryn Shaw said on her Facebook. However, others think human interference(干涉) is unnatural. “You can’t have sunshine throughout your life. To have done anything else would only make matters worse,” said the show’s creator David Attenborough, according to The Times. In this case, however, Mike Gunton, the executive producer of the series, said that this was a one-off situation. “There were no animals going to suffer by interfering. You weren’t touching the animals and it was just felt by doing this... they had the chance not to have to keep slipping down the slope,” he told the BBC. Such cases are familiar to Paul Nicklen, wildlife photographer for National Geographic. He told Metro, “If it’s ever a predator(捕食者)situation, no matter how gut-wrenching, you stay out of the way. Even when you’re watching a male polar bear eat a baby bear.” “There’s no rule book in those situations. You can only respond to the facts that are right there in front of you,” Will Lawson, the show’s director, told Daily Mail. 1、What has led to a heated media discussion? A.People’s various remarks on penguins. B.The rescue of penguins from a gully. C.Some penguins’ sufferings in a gully. D.Ways of filming the series Dynasties. 2、Who holds a positive attitude towards human interference? A.Kathryn Shaw. B.Will Lawson. C.Paul Nieklen. D.Making one heartbroken. 4、What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Reasons for the Necessity of Lending a Hand to Animals B.Suggestions on How to Protect Animals From Danger C.Effects of Human Interference on Dangerous Animals D.Opinions on Whether to Help Animals in Trouble or Not 23.(8分)In the fall of 1988, I visited many Buddhist temples, but after a while they all began to fade from my memories. However, there was one temple that left a great impression in my heart. It is called the Temple of the Golden Buddha. After walking around it and taking some photos, I walked over to a glass case, next to which was a typewritten page describing the history of this magnificent piece of art. Back in 1957 a group of monks from a monastery(修道院) had to relocate a clay Buddha from their temple to a new location. The monastery was to be relocated to make room for the development of a highway. When the crane(吊车)began to lift it, the weight of was so large that it began to crack. What’s more, rain began to fall, The head monk decided to lower the statue back to the ground and cover it with a large oilcloth to protect it from the rain. Later that evening the head monk went to check on the Buddha. He shined his flash- light under the oilcloth to see if the Buddha was staying dry. As the light reached the crack, he noticed a little beam shining back and thought it strange. As he took a closer look at this beam of light, he wondered if there might be something underneath the clay. He went to fetch a chisel and hammer from the monastery and began to chip away at the clay. As he knocked off pieces of clay, the little beam grew brighter and bigger. Many hours of labor went by before the monk stood face to face with the extraordinary solid-gold Buddha. Historians believe that several hundred years before the head monk’s discovery, the army was about to invade the country. The monks, realizing that their country would soon be attacked, covered their precious golden Buddha with an outer covering of clay in order to keep their treasure from being robbed by the enemy. Unfortunately, it appears that the enemy killed all the monks, and the well-kept secret of the golden Buddha remained uncovered until the day in 1957. As I flew home I began to think to myself, “We are all like the clay Buddha covered with a shell of hardness created out of fear, and yet underneath each of us is a ‘golden Buddha’, agolden Christ, or a ‘golden spirit,’ which is our real self. Somewhere along the way, between the ages of two and nine, we begin to cover up our’ golden spirit,’ our natural self. Much like the monk with the hammer and the chisel, our task now is to discover our true spirit once again.” 1、What made the monks cover the Buddha with a large oilcloth? She decided to work at one of New York’s oldest literary agencies. Yet she had no idea that it would be the first stepping stone on the way to becoming a writer, and later, the novelist she is today. In the face of the ups and downs, she gave it her all. She can still remember that her boss was very challenging. “The thing that worked when my boss was being difficult was remembering it wasn’t personal. Usually, it’s not about you, it’s them,” she advises anyone in a similar situation. Being a manager and editor herself later in her career also helped to make sense of what happened years before. “It’s really hard managing a lot of people. I had a lot more sympathy for my former boss after that. You don’t know everything that’s going on with them, and remember: they’re a person, too,” she says. After only a year, Rakoff realized she was not “an agency person” as her manager had believe
