1. Teaching ideology This curriculum will help develop students’ comprehensive language competence. The students will gain a sense of achievement by accomplishing all the activities asked by the teacher. Teachers should creatively design learning activities relevant to students’ real lives to engage their interest in activities and organize activities effectively so that they participate in activities and reach the objects. The whole class should focus on the students. Under the guidance and help of the teacher; students develop their language skills, good study habits and effective learning strategies in an integrated way through experiential, practical, cooperative, autonomous and inquiry-based learning. 2. Teaching material and learning condition 2.1The analysis of teaching material This unit focuses on the topic of an unusual kind of car. The item of this unit is helping students know a more cleaner and economical car and can learn how to make comparison between two things. What’s more, this class involves many practices and pair or group work. After learning this class, the students will master the skill of description and making comparison. 2.2The analysis of learning condition And students in my class are all from junior school so their language is comparatively limited and small. While this whole text is short and easy to understand except for some phrases. But this topic concerns one of the most popular issues in nowadays. That is environmental protection. So this class should be an active one as long as the teacher is well-prepared. 3. Background information: Students: 45 Junior High students, Grade 2. Lesson duration: 45 mins. 4. Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: 1) know the basic advantages of cleaner and more efficient energy; 2) learn to make comparison of two things; 3) create own dialogue about describing their merits and demerits; 4) use the words and phrase in this text. 5. Teaching contents: vocabulary about car, ways of describing characteristics of an objective, ways of comparing two things. 6. Anticipated difficulties 1) The students may have difficulties in understanding the functions of some components of a car. 2) They may also be unaware of the advantages of using electric engine instead of petrol engine. 3) They may fail to express their idea for they are short of enough professional knowledge and language. Teaching method Situational teaching method; Communicative teaching method 8. Teaching aids blackboard, chalk, PPT, tapes,charters. 9. Teaching procedures: Step1:warm up (10 mins) 1) watch a short video about the over-crowdedness and the pollution discharged by the automobiles 2) Ask the students questions about how the cars work and what are required to meet the demand of the drivers. Give their opinions. 3) Summarize the students' ideas and make conclusions. 4) Introduce some advantages about clean energy used in vehicles. Step2:learning new words and phrases of the text (10 mins) 1) use blackboard to teach the new words. Attach them with English and Chinese meaning. 2) Ask the students to read the new words and phrases. 3) Make sentences with these new words and phrases and ask the students make their own sentences using these words. Step3:learn the text (10 mins) 1) play the tape to the students and let the students read after the recording. 2) Make a generalization about the text and use PPT to introduce what has been referred to in the text, such as pictures, data and charters. 3) The teacher try to give the students some clue to help the students think about more suggestions of enhance the efficiency of a car. Step 4:tasks (10 mins) 1) organize a whole-class work and every students join a free-talk activity, whose topic is how to enhance the efficiency of a car. Then ask volunteers to make conclusions. 2) Divide the whole class into many groups of two people. Then ask them to make a form about advantages and disadvantages about driving a car. Advantages Disadvantages 1 2 3 3) ask student to go up on the teaching stage and give his or her performance. 4) Give an overall comment on the students' performance and give some useful suggestions. Step5:more practices (5 mins) 1) ask the students to make more comparison about other things. And make a list of both advantages and disadvantages of it. Strep6:conclusion of the whole class. 6. Summary: This class mainly focuses on the introduction of a car with higher efficiency and how to describe the characteristics of one thing. The students are quite interested in this topic and actively participated in class activities including group work, individual work and whole class work. Through the instructions and the cooperation between the teacher and students, the students have a quick master of the basic skills. 7. Homework assignments: 1)Ask the students to remember the new words and phrases of this unit. 2)Ask the students to create a dialogue about comparing two objectives and then draw to conclusion. Using the ways learned in class. 8. After-lesson reflection: The students are quite cooperative in this period of class. It should partly be contributed by the topic which well suits the students’ interest. But there also exist some shortcomings in this class. Due to the time limit, only a few students have the chance to speak in front of the whole class. Many other students are not brave enough to stand up. So next time, more whole class work should be on the list of teaching plan. And we should also encourage students to have critical thinking patterns.
