The last century has shown us quite clearly that migration into cities is the trend of the present and the future. It is estimated that less than three percent of the world’s population called cities their 36 in 1800. By the turn of the 21st century, this number had 37 with some experts estimating nearly half of all people lived in cities. This massive migration has led to the 38 of the megacity, a term 39 used to define a city with a population of over 10 million inhabitants.
It is widely believed that at least 25 cities, such as New York City and Shanghai, meet the 40 of megacities. Although there are many 41 that have led to the development of these megacities, 42 on technology, population growth and economic development of developing countries are often 43 as major contributors to their appearance.
Megacities 44 convenience and good opportunities to find work, but they also have complicated problems. Many of the traditional cities, such as New York City and Los Angeles, were not built to hold so many citizens and are 45 with countless issues of how and 46 to expand to 47 their increasing populations. Sanitation(卫生), crime and poverty are severe issues a megacity must face, and 48 have found sufficient ways to handle them.
Many of the megacities are in countries where there is a huge 49 division between the rich and the poor. People who desperately need work only 50 in the city can not afford to live there, and are 51 to live in slums, typically hotbeds of crime with severe sanitation problems, leading to high death rates and the danger of fast 52 diseases.
However, the megacity, according to most population experts, is here to stay 53 its problems. A megacity has a(n) 54 economy. When one part loses competitiveness, the city can absorb the loss but a small city can’t. Over time, new competitive businesses rise up. This is why big cities tend to come back again and again. The 55 is its insurance.

BEIJING - President Xi Jinping Saturday wrapped up his African tour, which took him to Tanzania, South Africa and the Republic of the Congo.
It was reasonably believed that his successful visit to the three African countries started a new era of relations between China and Africa.
The Republic of the Congo, located in central Africa, is one of the first African countries that established diplomatic relations with China, and Tanzania in eastern Africa is among the African countries that have the staunchest (坚定的,忠诚的)ties with China, while South Africa is one of those in the continent that have witnessed the fastest growth in their ties with China.
Old friends or new, Xi's visit has shown the world that the "deep traditional friendship" between China and Africa is advancing with the times.
In the old days, it was the African countries that helped China resume its membership in the United Nations.
In turn, China started to extend assistance to Africa half a century ago, though it was still a poor country at that time.
Their similar experiences in history and friend-in-need relations have helped form a "real feeling" between China and Africa on the basis of sincerity.
China and African countries firmly support each other in issues concerning their core interests as well as major international and regional issues. Some African commentators said that sincerity is the key feature of China's ties with African countries.
Out of the sincerity, China insists that African countries should have the final say on their own affairs. Beijing keeps this basis of its policy on Africa unchanged, regardless of its own rapid development and increased impact on the international stage.
Foreign Policy in Focus, a US research group, has noticed China's respect toward Africa, saying Beijing's economic investment without any political strings attached is gaining popularity in Africa.
China has sincerely helped Africa in its efforts for development. Beijing's involvement in Africa's infrastructure ranges from building schools, hospitals, highways, power stations and ports to drilling water wells.
Meanwhile, China has provided Africa with various technologies from rice planting to resources exploration and extraction(提取,抽取), from green energy to 3G know-how, and from technology transfer to personnel training.
With this sincerity, the content and scope of China-Africa cooperation are expanding and keeping in line with the times.
China has not only provided Africa with traditional aid, but also launched mutually-beneficial cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and technology, helping the continent fully tap its potential in development.
With China and Africa both yearning for development, the "Chinese Dream" of national rejuvenation(复兴) is tied up with the "African Dream" of self-reliance and development.
It was widely expected that after Xi's historical visit to the continent, the new-type strategic partnership between China and Africa will continue to expand, bilateral all-round cooperation will gear up, and their relations will enter a new era.

As the first freshmen class of 2010 start their studies, the spotlight is on China’s new generation—the post-90s.
Unfortunately, references in the press to the post-90s or post-80s generation are often linked to negative qualities: laziness, irresponsibility and, of course, not listening to their “elders and betters”.
So are these new students destined for failure because of their lack of moral fiber?
I think not. There are two main reasons Chinese young people are often misunderstood.
First, every older generation thinks their young are the worst ever. There are even historical records of ancient Romans accusing teenagers of being particularly disobedient and not to following traditional values.
Although the Roman Empire eventually collapsed, there’s no sign China is on the decline just yet, despite all those “lazy” post-80s kids who have joined the workforce.
China’s young people only work hard when their tasks are interesting and meaningful.
Your teachers may be disappointed that you have forgotten how to write many Chinese characters by brush, but a recent study showed the under-30s are China’s most enterprising generation.
Second, the “strange” behavior of the young is sometimes blamed on the influence of Western values. A Chinese friend of mine was even banned from listening to Western pop music such as Britney Spears when he lived at home because his mother thought it was a bad influence. He’s now happy writing full-time about fashion and music for an E
