In his job as sales support associate, Cal helps four busy salespeople at a company that sells flooring, wallpaper, and countertop materials for kitchens and bathrooms. The company, Floors &. More, has four locations, each in a different city.
All the salespeople have cubicles, though they spend most of their time madding sales presentations in people’s homes. Cal’s job is to process the salespeople’s orders. When a problem-such as a back order-comes up, he puts the paperwork back on the appropriate person’s desk. Cal has anyone suggested that he do so. He sometimes runs out of things to do. When that happens, he waits in a cubicle until something comes up.
In the showroom, the receptionist, Angelica, also has a cubicle. Angelica answers all incoming calls. The phone rings 10 to 20 times per hour. Most calls are for the salespeople. Angelica takes messages (usually just a name and number) for the absent salespeople. If showroom customers have a question, they often must wait until Angelica is between phone calls. Sometimes, if a caller isn’t someone she knows, she puts the call on hold and answers a question with the phone resting on her shoulder.
Occasionally customers in the showroom approach Cal with a question. Sometimes he just says, “I'm not a salesperson; I can’t help you.” At other times, Cal tells them they’ll have to wait for Angelica or make an appointment with one of the salespeople. The salespeople, however, do not have telephones with them when they are out of the showroom, and Angelica does not schedule appointments for them.
26. What does Cal do as a sales support associate?
A. He sells materials to salespeople. B. He processes the salespeople’s orders.
C. He communicates with customers.
27. Which of the following is true about Cal?
A. He helps dozens of salespeople. B. He offers rewards to salespeople.
C. He presents problems to appropriate people.
28. Which of the following is NOT Angelica’s job?
A. Answering calls. B. Leaving messages.
C. Scheduling appointments.
29. Customers in the showroom ______ Cal.
A. sometimes inquire B. always meet C. never look for
30. Cal is Angelica’s _______.
A. external customer B. internal customer C. service provider
Passage Two
Kim was in danger of being fired from her job for she was such a perfectionist that she’d try to cover up her mistakes or argue with her boss. What should she do to overcome her problem?
The most dramatic and enduring life changes often occur through community-based initiatives, like Weight Watchers or Alcoholics Anonymous, where there are groups of people invested in your success and for whom you feel responsible. It makes sense to apply the same principles that have been so successful in dealing with self-destructive habits when creating your “dream team” for personal growth.
Your team works best with about five people, all of whom care enough about you to be ruthlessly honest. Select people with various backgrounds. Not only will a diverse group come up with original solutions, they are more likely to offer networks and efforts you may not have access to yourself. Kim, for example, invited both a trusted colleague and her boss to join her team.
The role you play is a listener to their criticisms, though it’s not always easy. Kim argued with her team so much that her colleague finally said, “Look, if you’re going to ask for my advice and always disagree with it, it' s not worth my making the effort to give it.” You can ask your team members to clarify themselves, but do not contradict them, even if you feel a team member has made a terrible misjudgment. This is his “gift” to you. And if four out of five people are giving you the same gift, then they are more likely to point out something right. In a word, by reaching out to your team with generosity when seeking their counsels, you’ll be rewarded with the key to your problem.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. It compares the difference between team work and individual work.
B. It analyzes people who may play different roles in your entire life.
C. It suggests you establish a team of advisors to help you make life changes.
32. Why do successful life changes often happen on the basis of teams? Because ______.
A. you are supported by team members and you can’t let them down
B. people can help each other to get rid of different shortcomings
C. your team members can avoid making any misjudgment on you
33. Your “dream team” targets on ______.
A. establishing your self-esteem B. improving your personality
C. developing your work ability
34. A dream team should show diversity in its membership because ______.
A. everyone has a unique role in the team B. they can be honest and critical to you
C. the team will be creative and resourceful
35. When seeking advices from your team, you should
A. turn them down immediately B. respect their criticisms
C. correct a misjudgment

36. Proposals are another type of persuasive writing. A proposal is a formal report that describes a problem and recommends a solution.
