I. Analysis of the Students
The target students are in grade one of senior high school and about 15 years old. Most students don’t master a systematic English learning method and need to improve in vocabulary and grammar. Take this unit for example, although they have a penchant for traveling and know some names of places of interest in English, they are not familiar with the words and expressions about cultural relics. So it is essential for a teacher to have a clear clue of this unit and help the students improve their ability of discussing and expressing cultural relics fluently in English.
II. Analysis of the Teaching Material
A. Analysis of the Teaching Contents
The topic of this unit centers on cultural relics, including the history, present situation and solutions of protecting cultural relics. The reading material is about one of the most significant cultural relics in the world ---- Amber Room. From this unit, students can learn how to describe a cultural relic, meanwhile, they can increase their awareness that for the human beings’ sake, cultural relics made by hard-working people and passed down from generation to generation need global attention and protection.
B. Important Points
1. Enable the students to use new words and phrases about cultural relics
2. Train the students’ ability to cooperate with others
3. Help the students learn some information about the Amber Room

1. The proper usage of new words and phrases
2. How to introduce a cultural relic

1. What do you know about the substance ----- “ amber ”?
2. How much does it cost?
3. Can you imagine a house made of amber?
Step 2
Ask the students what they want to know when they see the title.
C. While-reading
Step 1. Skimming
1. Read the passage quickly and match the main idea of each part.
2. Find out the main idea of this passage.
Step 2. Scanning
1. Read the text again and answer some questions to have a further understanding of the text.
2. Analyze the characteristics of the text.
D. Post-reading
1. Discussion----Do you think it is worth rebuilding lost cultural relics such as the Amber Room or Yuanmingyuan in Beijing? Give your reasons. (On page 2)
