Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warm-up
Listen and sing a song: Hello
(通过打招呼的歌曲引入正题。既能活跃气氛,又能在潜移默化中教会学生用英语打招呼)
Step 2 New vocabulary input
T: Let’s look at the picture, and tell me: what’s this in English?
S: It’s..
(用前几堂课中熟悉的内容来作铺垫,既起到温故知新的作用,也本单元的部分新词贯穿其中。)
Step 3 Pair work
1. T: Hello. What’s your name?
S: My name is …
T: Nice to meet you. (shake hands)
S: Nice to meet you, too.
(Ask students to make similar dialogues with desk mates. 4 pairs give performance)
2 Listening
T: Now let’s do the listening exercise on page 1 (1b). Number the conversations.
Check the answers.
Read the conversations together. (Boys and girls)
Step3 Name Guessing
1.T: we are going to meet more friends and know their names..
Let’s play a guessing game. ( with the pictures from the ppt)

(选用的人物都是学生们熟悉和感兴趣的,并且中外都有涉及,方便后面中英文名字的比较。)
2.名字接力问答游戏
Model: (with my own picture and two pictures of my friens)
T: Look, who is in the picture?
S: Miss Tian.
T: Yes, My name is Hermine, and these are my friends. Her name is Lucy and his name is Mike. Can you introduce your friends to me?
S: OK.
T: First let’s have some practice. (利用书本出现的名字先齐声练习, 熟悉句型的同时区分男女名的不同,初步积累)

What’s her name?--- Her name is…Giina/ Jenny/ Marry)
然后以小组接力竞赛的方式介绍, My name is …/ His name is../ Her name is…到后面的同学需要重复前面同学的名字,并且区分男女, 准确无误的小组可以加分。
Step 4 listening
T: After the PK, we know some friends’ names, and now let’s listen to their conversations. Turn to page 2
Listen carefully and number the pictures in 2a.
Listen again, and circle the names you hear in 2b.
Check answers.
Step 5 Introducing the English names and Chinese names.
1. T: we know Chinese and English are quite different. We can see it from our names.
For example, Zhang Dandan &Jim Green (blackboard)
Zhang is a family name in this Chinese name, in Chinese we call “姓”.
Green is a family name in the English name. And we can call him Mr. Potter.
So we find that the places of family name are different.
2. Read together (Jim Green/ Lucy Brown/ Jack Smith/ Zhang Dandan/ Liu Yong/ Lilin)
First name= given name
Last name= family name= surname
3. Ask and answer(teacher modeling1—whole class--individual student3--pair work2 )

(2) 英美人的姓氏在形成的过程中受到以下各种因素的影响:
A .以职业名称为姓。英语国家中的Carpenter,Thatcher,Tailor,Smith,Baker等姓氏源于木匠、盖屋顶的人、裁缝、铁匠、面包师傅等。
B.以个人特征为姓。Small,Long,Wise,便分别是“小个子”、“大个子”、“聪明”等个人身体或个性特征。
C.英美人的有些姓名来源于颜色。如Green就是“绿色”的意思;再如White,Brown,Black就是源于白色、棕色、黑色之意。
