Chemical or Organic Farming? (Reading)
Teaching aims:
1. Develop students reading skills by skimming for main ideas and scanning for details.
2. Have students learn and talk about disadvantages of chemical farming and advantages of organic farming.
3. Master some key words and phrases: chemical, organic, build up, lead to, keep…free from, focus on, production, cause damage to.

Step Ⅰ. Lead in
1. Self introduction: Good morning, students, my name is Li Ou, you can call me Mrs. Li or Teacher Li. Hope we can have a good time in this class. Today, we are going to learn more about unit 2 – working the land.
2. Ask student:
① Do you play QQ farming? Do you know how to play it?
Answers: First, we need to buy or select the seeds from the store.
Second, we need to plow or turn over the soil.
Third, we sow the seeds in the soil.
Finally, we can harvest our grain.
② In order to increase production of the crops, we need to water the crop, rid the soil of the weed, and kill off the pest.
Tips: increase production – reduce production – unproductive
T: Sometimes, we also use this one to fertilize the soil. What is it?
S: It is fertilizer.
T: How many kinds of fertilizers do you know?
S: There are two kinds. They are chemical&natural fertilizers.
