Wendy Martin is an ordinary university student who used to love surfing the Internet and chatting with friends online. She often spent much of her free time talking with her family and making new friends online. Then something a happened. It completely changed Wendy's feelings about the Internet.
One of Wendy's favourite things to do online was to visit the chat rooms on music websites. Everyone there loved chatting about recent concerts and what the famous s were going to do next. It was here that Wendy first met Anne. The two women liked each other immediately. Soon they exchanged e-mail addresses and were communicating online every day.
Wendy e talking to her new friend. They both liked the same music, the same clothes and the same films, but they also had the same worries about studying and the future. Anne had e-mailed her a picture of herself—— she even looked s to Wendy. So, when Anne asked Wendy for her address and phone number, Wendy thought her new friend was a person she could trust.
It was only when Wendy got a letter from the bank that she realized something was wrong. Anne was not who she said she was. She was not a university student, she was not young and she was not even a woman. 'Anne' was really a 45-year-old man called Tim Histanon. He p to like the same things as Wendy. He had used Wendy's personal information to spend all the money in her bank account.
This situation is actually quite common, and affects thousands of people every year. Fortunately for Wendy, Tim Histanon was finally caught by the police, so Wendy got most of her money back. Many people, h , have not been so lucky.
Everyone can learn from the mistakes that Wendy made. N give out personal information while chatting online, and always make sure your user name is different from your real name. Nobody wants to make the same mistake as Wendy.

Today some people call Amsterdam “The City of Bicycles” because it is a city which is flat and convenient for bicycles.
In the 1960s, a group of cycling fans had an idea. They believed that it would be better for everybody if only bicycles were a in the city center. They hoped that this would help to save energy, reduce pollution and provide free transport. The group painted hundreds of bicycles white and placed them in public places around Amsterdam for people to use. Anyone was able to use them for s journeys, whether he was a local or a foreigner. Wherever someone finished a journey, they would l the bicycle there for someone else to use. The problem was that it didn’t work–thieves took all the bicycles within weeks!
However, more than forty years later, the “white bicycle” is b in town–this time with a computer chip (芯片) to r its every move! To take a bicycle, you have to put a special card inside. The new “white bicycle” is not white any more but is an unusual design with bright colours. The bicycles are parked at special parking places and people who want to use them have to take them to a place that has enough room.
There is already l traffic in central Amsterdam, because both locals and tourists have been using the “white bicycles”. Thanks to the good ideas of lots of people, like the cycling fans in the 1960s, many people around the world have been enjoying city center streets without cars for many years.

Ten years later, I can remember my time in seventh grade like yesterday. The thing I remember most about is my English teacher, Mr. Mabry. He was, by far, the best teacher in the world. First of all, he didn't use 1 method of teaching. Instead, he used his theater background to make learning English grammar fun for the whole class. When we studied Shakespeare, we 2 acted out the parts, so that we really had a good understanding of Shakespeare's works.
He also did many other things for us. He encouraged his students to ask questions about anything and everything and then, he would 3 to give us an honest answer. He taught us how to trust one another by playing games with us. He would make one person 4 backward while another person stood behind and caught him. As well, he used to let us have parties every week at school. If we wanted to have a party, he would give us our homework for the day of the party and we would do it at home. Then he would check our work and we would be 5 to have a party if everyone had done the homework and understood it.
Some of the kids in the school had problems at home. Mr. Mabry acted as a parent for these children. He 6 them patiently and listened to their complaint. He encouraged them to do things that they really liked. Being the best teacher in the world is the greatest honour for any teacher, and Mr. Mabry certainly deserves it.

Dear Editor,
I am writing to ask what has happened to our young people. They are not as polite, hard-working or clever as we used to be. I will give you two examples.
Last Friday, I got on the underground at 9:15 am. It was so busy that there were no free ___1___. There were some teenagers sitting on the seats nearest me, I don’t know why they were not at school. They were talking ___2___ and laughing. It was difficult to read my newspaper with all the noise. A heavily pregnant(怀孕的)woman and her daughter got on at the next stop, carrying lots of shopping bags. I ___3___ the teenagers to let them sit down. They saw the woman but did nothing. I had to ask them to give her seat. They did so but gave me a ___4___ look. I got off at the next stop and was glad the teenagers didn’t follow me.
Last Saturday, I had dinner with my friend’s family. I was looking forward to meeting his children. During dinner, we started talking about ___5___. It soon become clear that they knew so little. They couldn’t tell me the name of the King of Spain or the President of Italy. All they knew about was the Internet and which singers were the most beautiful. In my day, students knew the kings, queens and presidents of every country in Europe.
I am ___6___ the future of Germany. How could these young people become responsible workers and parents? They sit around McDonald’s after school instead of going to the library like I did at their age. Maybe they have too much money. Perhaps another reader can give us an idea about what to do with our young people.
Yours sincerely,
Frank Hudson
