Yi Lin Edition Primary English (Teaching Plan) (Grade Five) Unit 5 What do they do? Teaching contents: Story time Teaching aims: 1. Aims on the knowledge (1) To enable the Ss to understand, speak, read and write words: teacher, teach, write, work, doctor, help, worker, nurse. (2) To enable the Ss to understand, speak, read words : writer, at home, sick, people, factory, cook, driver, farmer, policeman (3) To enable the Ss to understand, speak, read and write sentences: What does he/ she do? He’s / She’s a teacher/ writer/ factory worker/… 2. Aims on the abilities To enable the Ss to listen, speak and read the words about jobs, proficiency in the use of expressions in daily communication. 3. Aims on the emotion To cultivate the Ss to love the life and respect other’s labor fruits. Teaching key-points (1) To enable the Ss to understand, speak, read and write words: teacher, teach, write, work, doctor, help, worker, nurse. (2) To enable the Ss to understand, speak, read and write sentences: What does he/ she do? He’s / She’s a teacher/ writer/ factory worker/… Teaching difficult points To enable the Ss to listen, speak and read the words about jobs, proficiency in the use of expressions in daily communication. Teaching method In this lesson, mainly use “Task-based teaching method”, “Communicative language teaching method” Teaching preparation Multimedia courseware Teaching Video CD Write down the text topic on the blackboard Teaching procedures Step 1: Warm up: 1. Greeting: T: Good morning, boys and girls. Ss: Good morning, Miss Yang. T: Nice to see you. Ss: Nice to see you too. 2. Sing a song: T: Let’s sing a song. 《We all like climbing》 (Show the song and the students sing after it) 3. Free talk: 1.(PPT shows the Miss Yang’s photo )T: Who is she? S1: She’s Miss Yang. T: What does she do? (Ask the students to guess the sentence’s meaning.) S2: She’s a teacher. (Teach the new word: teacher) T: She teaches English. Right? Ss: Yes. (PPT shows the sentence. Teach the word :teach and teaches. Be attention to compared the difference of teacher and teaches. )teach plus “es” 2.(PPT shows the Mao Kexin’s family’s photo.) T: Mao Kexin, what does your father do? M: My father is a cook. (Teach the new word: cook) T:What about your mother? Is she a cook too? M: No, she isn’t. (PPT shows the sentences.) T: Today we will learn Unit 5 What do they do? Step 2: Presentation and practice. 1. Overall understanding of the text. (1)PPT shows the picture of the text. T: Who are they? S1: They are Su Hai and Mike. T: Yes. They are talking about their parents’ jobs. What do they do? Let’s watch the cartoon and tick their jobs. (Do the exercise on page 62 chatting with me 1of Ban nixue ) (2)Help Ss to understand the new words meaning in the form. T: (PPT shows the picture about worker) What does he do? S1: He is a worker. Learn the new word and read the word one by one. (Teach the other words: writer, policeman, nurse, doctor, farmer like this.) 2. Learn the dialogue (1)Read and answer. Watch and read after the cartoon, and then answer the questions. PPT shows the questions. ① What does Mike’s father do? ② What does Mike’s mother do? ③ What does Su Hai’s father do? ④ What does Su Hai’s mother do? (2)Ss read the questions and understand what is the meaning. (3)Ss talking about the questions and find the answers in groups. (4)Ss answer the questions one by one. Teach the verbs: write , work Teach the phrases : at home, sick people , factory worker and make sweets. Step 3: Consolidation. 1. Read the sentence by sentence after the cartoon. 2. Read and act in groups. (Ss read the dialogue in roles. Be attention the pronunciation.) 3. Show time: group members show their reading for the other Ss. 4. Let’s talk.(PPT shows the pictures. Ss take out their parents’ or family’s photo, and then talking about their jobs in groups.) Eg: Xxx, what does your father do? He’s a … Xxx, what does your mother do? She’s a … 5.Do the exercise: Think and write: (page 50 of English Book ) Mike’s father is a teacher. He teaches English. Mike’s mother is a writer. She writes stories. Su Hai’s father is a doctor. He helps sick people. Su Hai’s mother is a worker. She makes sweets. (T: You can find the patterns from the sentences. Help the Ss to find some patterns about the sentences.) Step 4: Summary From the learning, can you use these sentences? How to say them? 1. When you want to know Liu Tao’s father’s job, what can you say? What does your father do, Liu Tao? 2. When you want to tell somebody your mother is a factory worker, you can say: My mother is a factory worker. 3. When you want to tell somebody she works at home, you can say: She works at home. Step 5: Homework Must do it: 1. Read the dialogue three times. 2. Do the exercise about Story time on page 62 to 63of Ban nixue 3.Do the exercise about Grammar time on page 63 to 64 I can try 1,2of Ban nixue ) Choose do it: Imitate the story time and make a dialogue , talk about with your family or your friends.
