Warming up
I. Present the picture of Wang Ping on Page 12. Ask the students to look at it and guess:
Is the girl happy?
What problems does she have?
II. Tell students they are going to learn more about school life.
Reading
presentation
I. Ask students to read the e-mail of Wang Ping. Remind them to apply the reading skills. Then ask them to finish the “true” or “false” questions:
□ Wang Ping is not busy at her new school.
□ Wang Ping has to take music lesson.
□ Wang Ping doesn’t need to memorise a lot of new
words.
□ Wang Ping has a great deal of free time.
II. Play the tape. Ask the students to listen to it and read after that.
III. Divide students into groups and instruct them to do Activity ② on Page 12. Encourage students to fill in the form.
IV. Instruct students to finish the reading on Page 13. Remind students of the reading skill: scanning for the gist. Answer the questions:
Who made speech last year at John’s school?
What kind of events is popular at Lucy’s school?
V. Play the tape and ask the students to listen to it.
Extension activity
I. Ask the students to surf the Internet and look for information about what vocational schools are like in other countries.
II. Show what vocational schools are like in German as an example. Ask the students to show pictures of different vocational schools and talk about their school lives in turn.

I. Present the two phonetic symbols and their pronunciations in “Tongue Twisters” on Page 14.
II. Play the tape of “Tongue Twisters” and ask the students to read after the tape.
III. Play the tape of “A Joke”, and then ask the students to act it out.

1. Ask students to read the words, phrases and sentences in class.
2. Instruct students to collect other words, phrases and sentences in groups and present their work in class.
Homework
1. Ask the students to collect more information about school activities on the Internet, and then ask them to make a poster of it.
2. Ask the students to preview Unit 2.
