Step 1: Learn new words.
Step2: Lead in and presentation
According to “guessing game””lead in the following modal verbs“must be, might be, can’t be”and make inferences。
Step 3 Preparation
1. Show a watch to Ss, ask like this :
T: ---can you guess whose watch this is ?
Ss --- It could be …’s.
T: --- yeah, It belongs to …
2. lead the new content in.
Step 4 New content
1..look at the pictures in 1a, lead Ss to summarize and classify all the words , if necessary, read the words together.
2.show some pictures, have Ss guess : Whose … is this?
3.listen to tape and finish the 1b (lead Ss to make sentences ).
4.explain the key points, lead Ss to summarize the usage of modal verbs, writing on the blackboard:

5.Show some objectives and ask students to make inferences with their partners.work in groups to prepare the dialogues like 1c, then act out.
6.Work on 2a and 2b
Bob and Anna found a schoolbag at the park .Listen and write down the things in the schoolbag.
7.2c After listening and check the answers ask students to make conversations using the information in 2a and 2b.
Step5 Summary
In this period ,we’v mainly learned to make inferences using modal verbs. Through listening and speaking practice,we consolidated the target laguage and developed out listening and speaking skills.
Step6 Homework
Use the 4 modal verbs learned today to make inferences and write them down on your exercise book.
