To be able to understand and talk about what activities people usually do during these festivals. 教学重点 Help the students to practice the important reading strategies: scanning, skimming and guessing the meaning of words. 教学难点 Help the students to know and practice the skills of inferring, analyzing and comparing the information based on the passages about different festivals. 教具 PowerPoint presentation slides of images about different Chinese and foreign festivals, key words and tips for reading. 教 学 环 节 设 计 教学步骤 教学过程设计 教学环节设计 Warming up I. Ask the students to look at the photos about“festivals”and discuss the following question: Who do you usually eat on the festival? II. Introduce the learning content to the students: Tell them that they are going to read a short passage about festival. Pre-reading I. Present some new words on the slide. Tell the students their meanings and pronunciations. II. Present the following questions and the picture of turkey on page 103, and then ask the students to predict: What festival is it? What do people usually do on this festival? Reading practice (1) I. Ask the students to skim the passage on Page 103, and try to answer the above questions. Give the students some advice about reading skills. II. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after the tape and underline the important phrases about Thanksgiving Day. Explain the meanings of these phrases to them. III. Ask the students to read the table in Activity ②, and then ask them to fill in the table according to the passage. IV. Ask the students to check their answers in pairs and then check their work in the whole class. Reading practice (2) I. Ask the students to read the passage on Page 104, and then answer the following two questions: When is the Spring Festival? What do people do during Spring Festival? II. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it and underline the important words and phrases about Spring Festival activities. Explain their meanings to the students. III. Ask the students to read the passage again individually and then check what they do during Spring Festival (Activity ④ on page 104). 教学环节设计 Reading practice (3) I. Ask the students to look at the pictures and guess what festival they are about. II. Ask the students to read the passage on Page 105, and then answer the following questions: When is the festival? What activities do children do on Halloween? III. Play the tape. Ask the students to read after it. IV. Ask the students to read the passage individually. V. Ask the students to talk with their partners and write down the date of the festivals. VI. Check their answers in the whole class. Reading practice (4) I. Ask the students to read the letter about Terry’s April Fool’s Day plan and count how many tricks he wants to play on the day. 2. Ask the students to report their answers. 3. Ask the students to work in groups to talk about their own April Fool’s Day plan. 4. Ask the students to write a letter to Terry. 5. Ask the students to check their letters in pairs. 6. Show some of their letters in the whole class. Consolidation I. Ask the students to take part in a competition. Ask them to make a list of the festivals they know. II. Present some Chinese and foreign festivals on a slide. Ask them to read them aloud in English. III. Ask the students to work in pair to talk about which is his/her favourite festival and what activities he/she does during the festival. Ask the students to investigate in their group which festival is the favourite festival of each group member and why he/she likes it best. 3. Ask the students to preview “Around the World” on Page 107 and look up the new words in dictionaries.
