课前准备:
练习:结合前面学过的对话听力练习,学会使用重点字词句对话等口语实践
形式:二人合作;师生互动
要求:在听力理解的基础上学会说
I. Lead-in & revision
Up till now we have finished learning some units of focus listening practice on Making Telephone Calls, Giving Advice, Talking about the Weather and Going on Holiday. In addition, we have also reviewed some relative topics such as Asking the Way and Describing a Person You Know Well.
Now I’d like to check the assignments of making conversations on the topics that we learned. The students are supposed to be well prepared and now they are to present their dialogues on the topics as follows:
1) Asking the Way
2) Telephoning
3) Giving Advice
4) Talking about the Weather
5) Going on Holiday
II. Presentation
1. The following are what we think about based on background information:
1) When do you go and see the doctor?
2) How do you explain to the doctor what’s wrong?
3) What do you concern about?
4) What would the doctor usually ask or say as he examines you and give you treatment?
5) What does the doctor often say to set your mind at ease?
6) What advice does the doctor usually give to you?
Now, before learning the useful expressions, let’s listen to/watch a short conversation between a doctor and a patient (Exercise 2, Part A, page 120 on teacher’s book).
2. We learn to express these:

Part B
How long have you been like this? Quite a few weeks.
When does the pain occur? When I bend down, I feel terrible.
Let me feel your pulse. What’s wrong with me, doctor?
Let me take your temperature. Is it serious, doctor?
Let me take your blood pressure.
Let me look at your throat.
You’d better take an X-ray first.
You need a blood test.
Part C
You have a bad cold/pneumonia. What shall I do?
You do have a temperature. When do I take the medicine?
Don’t worry. Take it easy. How many injections will I need?
Don’t worry. It’s just a common cold. When do I have come back to see you
The X-ray indicates it’s just a sprain. again?
The cream is to reduce the swelling. I’m so relieved to hear that.
Take the medicine three times after meal. Thank you, doctor.
3. Practice: put the following into English.
1) -你怎么了? -我牙疼。-那你应该去看牙医。
-What’s wrong with you?
–I get a toothache. –You should go to see the dentist.
2)-医生,我头痛,流鼻涕,嗓子疼。-这种症状多久了?
-Doctor, I have a headache, a running nose and a sore throat.
-How long have you been like this?
3)-医生,我怎么了?-你发烧了。你要吃药。
-What the matter with me, doctor?
–You’ve got a fever. You’ll take some medicine.
4)-你看上去很疲倦。-我很难入睡。
-You look tied. - I have difficulty in falling asleep.
III. Consolidation
1. The teacher asks the students to read aloud a dialogue on page 89-90.
2. In pairs, they are to practice making similar conversations of their own, using the given situation.
Situation: You go to see the doctor for a medical problem. Explain your symptoms to the doctor and find out what is wrong with you. Ask the doctor for advice as to what you should do to get well soon.
3. Several pairs of students are to present their conversations. The teacher listens and checks and offers help to them when necessary.
IV. Summary
Today we presented some short dialogues on the topics we learned before as a warm-up. We chiefly reviewed our listening activity on Seeing the Doctor and mainly practiced using the useful words, expressions, sentences and structures by making similar conversations. The consolidation is practical and essential not only in listening but in speaking as well. Before saying goodbye, each one of you is going to fill a form of evaluation of your partner’s participation, efforts and achievement in this period. Your efforts are highly appreciated. Thank you.
