Master the rules and the usage of the comparative forms of the adjectives and adverbs.

⑥Paul’s shorter than Peter.

I think Lisa sang better than Nelly.

Everyone wants to win. But the most important thing is to learn something new and have fun.

Step1 Leading-in
1. Look and say.
2. Let students look at four pictures of big, small, short and long, and lead into the comparative forms.
Intention:
1. Strengthen the interaction between the teacher and students by showing pictures.
2. Lead students into the comparative forms easily.
Step2 1a
1. Match each word with its opposite.
2. Take a opposite quiz about adjectives and adverbs.
Intention: Learn new words and first and then help students understand the comparative forms well.
Step3 1b-listening
1. Pre-listening: look and say how many twins are there in the picture, who are they, what do they look like?
2. While-listening: listen carefully and catch the key words, and get the right numbers.
3. Post-listening: Read the listening tape script and pay more attention to the comparative words.
Intention: Lead students to make good preparations for listening, and come to the learning of the comparative forms easily.
Step4 1c-pair work
1. First give an example of Tina & Tara.
2. Choose one of the two pictures from Tom or Paul and make your own conversations.
Intention: master the usage of the comparative forms by practicing.
Step 5 2a-listening
1. Be familiar with the given adjectives and adverbs first.
2. Listen carefully and fill in the chart with i(er) or more.
Intention:
Lead students to find the rules of the comparatives of adjectives and adverbs.
Step 6 2b-listening
1. Listen twice. The first listening, try to get the main idea and the second listening, catch the key words and complete the sentences.
2. Role-play the conversation between the teacher and boys, girls and pay more attention to the comparative words.
Intention: Check the students’ listening and reading and the usage of the comparative forms.
Step7 2c
1. Compare the two charts first.
2. Make your own sentences with the comparative forms.
Intention: Check the students ability of reading pictures and the usage of the comparative forms.
Step 8 2d
1. Listen and role play the conversation first.
2. Match the people with the right things.
Intention: Master the abilities of reading, understanding and getting the important information.
Step 9 Take a quiz.
Make a list of all adjectives and adverbs we have learned on page 17&18 and check students’ learning.
Intention: Check out the students’ learning of the comparative forms by speaking out as soon as possible one by one.
Step 10 Summary
Come to a summary of the rules of comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs.
Intention: Summarize the rules of the comparative forms.
Step 11 Homework
Write about the things that are the same and different between you and your best friend.
Intention: Check students’ learning of the comparative forms.
