1.2 Precautions
2. Upgrade Restrictions
− The WDS and mesh networking do not support the following upgrade scenarios:
− Upgrading a fat AP to a fat AP
− Switching a fat AP to a fit AP
− Switching a fit AP to a fat AP
− In the CLI mode, a Fit AP of V200R001 or V200R002 cannot be directly switched to a Fat AP of V200R005. You must upgrade the Fit AP to V200R003 or V200R005 first and then switch the Fit AP V200R003 or V200R005 to a Fat V200R005. For details, see FIT AP V200R005C10SPC700 (& AC) Upgrade Guide and 4.1 Method to Switch a Fit AP of V200R003V200R005 to a Fat AP of &V200R005. The U-Boot mode does not have this limitation
− If the fat AP upgrade fails, the AP cannot properly start. You can roll back the AP to the original version only in U-Boot mode, but not in CLI mode.
− A fat AP does not support the upgrade using HTTP on a web platform.
− After a fit AP switches to a fat AP, the fat AP automatically recovers factory settings. Therefore, you need to re-configure the Fat AP after the switching.
− After a fat AP switches to a fit AP, the fit AP automatically recovers factory settings. Before switching a fat AP to a fit AP, complete basic online configurations of the fit AP on the AC. The fit AP directly goes online after the switching.

Starting from V200R003C00SPC200, an AP upgrade using command lines is applicable to two remote upgrade scenarios: switching a fat AP to a fit AP and upgrading a fat AP to a target version. To upgrade APs remotely, the networking environment must meet certain requirements. For details, see 3.3 Setting Up the Upgrade Environment.
Uboot-based AP upgrade is not applicable to remote upgrade scenarios.

AP3x10xN V200R005C10SPC700 applies to AP3010DN-AGN.

1.3 Impact of the Upgrade
Impact on the System During the Upgrade
Impact on Services
During an AP upgrade, services are interrupted for about 20 minutes. The data is the test data in the lab. The actual AP upgrade time depends on the network environment.
Impact on Network Communication
When the system restarts, the communication between the switch and the NMS is interrupted. The communication interruption time is the same as the service interruption time.
Impact on the System After the Upgrade
l The Telnet function is disabled, but the STelnet function is enabled in the factory settings.
After a device of V200R005C00SPC200 or an earlier version is upgraded to V200R005C10 or later, the Telnet function is disabled in the factory settings. After factory settings of the device are restored, you need to enable the Telnet function first for Telnet login to the device or you can directly log in to the device using STelnet.
You can run the telnet server enable command in the system view to enable Telnet on a Fat AP.

To enable Telnet on a Fit AP, log in to the AC, run the telnet enable command in the AP profile view, and deliver the configuration. In the following example, the command is run in the default AP profile view.

1.4 Upgrade Methods
AP upgrade scenarios:
l Local upgrade
AC upgrade methods:
l CLI-based upgrade
l U-Boot upgrade
l Manual upgrade using the upgrade assistant software package

This upgrade method is not supported in V200R003C00SPC200 and a later version.
CLI-based Upgrade
When an AP is working properly, you can upgrade the AP using the CLI. The upgrade procedure in this mode is simple. The CLI-based upgrade mode is recommended.
Manual Upgrade Using the Upgrade Assistant Software Package
When the CLI-based upgrade fails, manually upgrade an AP using the upgrade assistant software package. However, this mode is not recommended.
U-Boot Upgrade
If the AP fails to start and cannot be upgraded using the CLI or the upgrade assistant software package, upgrade the AP using U-Boot. Using U-Boot to upgrade the AP is complex and must be implemented by strictly following the upgrade instructions. This mode is not recommended.

2 Upgrade Process

The AP8030DN and AP8130DN do not support an upgrade assistant package; therefore, you do not need to upgrade or verify the upgrade assistant package. Skip this step in an upgrade process.
