Unit 1 The Magic Show
I Warm up(ten minutes)
1 Greeting
T: Class begins. Good morning boys and girls!
Ss: Good morning, Miss Wu.
T: Sit down, please.

2 Play a game
T: Yesterday we learned the new words in Unit 1. Now let’s play a game with them . OK?
Ss: OK.
T: The game is very easy. I will say a word. For example,” magic”. You should say “It’s a nun. Magic. m-a-g-i-c.” Do you understand me? If you know, you should stand up and say it out as quickly as you can. I will see which team is good.
Ss: OK
T: Are you ready?
Ss: Yes, we are ready.

3 Before listening(five minutes)
T: Well done! Team 2 is good. If you are good and time permits, we will play another game. Today, we will learn a new lesson. Lesson 1. The Magic Show. Do you like magic shows?
S: Yes, I do.
T: Who has ever seen magic shows?
S: I have seen an amazing magic show on the television.
T: Wonderful! Do you remember the magician’s name?
S: No.
(Draw the students’ attention to the pictures on the page.)
T: Let’s look at the picture on the upper left. Maybe he is the magician you have seen on the television. Who can tell me his name?
S: Merlin.
T: What made you think so?
S: From the sign on the wall. It reads, “The World Famous Merlin.”
T: Good. What is he doing?
S: He is trying to pull a rabbit out of an empty hat.
T: That’s right. Look at the picture on the lower part and read what two boys are saying. What are they talking about?
S: Liu Chang went to a magic show and he is telling Tim about it .
T: Exactly. Ask them to write the correct numbers next to the sentences in
the left box. Then ask the students to match the two parts of each sentence.

II New knowledge (twenty-five minutes)
T: Merlin is really a good magician. He taught Liu Chang a magic trick. Are you interested in it ? OK. Let’s listen to the tape together. After that you will know what it is ?
(First listening.)
T: Let’ s do part A. Number 1, who taught a magic trick?
S: Merlin
T: Who pulled flowers out of a hat?
S: Liu Chang.
T: Who wants to learn a magic trick?
S: Amy.
T: OK . Good! On your second listening you should pay attention to the expressions in Language to know. To start with, means at first or firstly. After that , means the next step. To finish, means at last or finally. This is a way to introduce the last stage in a process.
Now listen to the tape, after that you should finish part B. Put the correct order.
(The correct order is 4-2-3-1)
T: Who can tell me the correct order?
S: The correct order is four-two-three-one.
T: Good! From this dialogue, let’s review some phrases we learned yesterday. “Magic trick” follow me “magic trick”

T: “tap… with…” follow me “tap…with…”

T: “Pull …out of”, follow me “pull …out of”

T: Listen to the tape. This time you should fill in the blanks. After that I’ll see who can recite the dialogue. Then I will ask some students to come to the front to act it out.

T: Excellent ! Now teacher will do some action , then you describe them with “to start with ,after that, to finish”
Ss: OK
(First I close the door, then I open the window, at last I listen to the music.)
S: To start with , teacher closed the door. After that, teacher opened the
window. To finish, teacher listened to the music.
T: Good! Now I will ask some students to do some action, then the other students describe them .
T: Well done! Now ask your partner the questions on part C. Then finish the exercise on your workbook within three minutes.

III Sum up(five minutes)
T: Who can tell us what we have learned in this lesson?
S: Some important phrases, such as take off , pull…out of, magic tricks
S: How to describe a sequence of steps. Such as “ To start with , after that, to finish ”
S: A new dialogue.
T: Good ! I hope you can remember what we have learned in today’s lesson. Let’s finish today’s lesson with a chant.
