Lesson 40: When Is Your Birthday? Class Opening Greeting 1. Give the standard greeting to welcome students to English class. 2. Ask and answer What day is today? What's the date today? How’s the weather today? How do you feel about the weather? What month comes after December/May/June...? Homework check! Divide all the class into six groups. Show the class calendar that you made and ask the students to talk about all the circled days. Choose the best calendar and the best talker! Show it to all the class! Key concepts Part I A birthday present Step I Present 1. Show the calendar you prepared and practice the drills: Which month is it? January/February.... It's the first/second... month of a year. 2. Learn all the new words and explain some language points. 3 Draw a form to help the students to read and remember the cardinal and the ordinal words. Step II Listen and Read 1. Listen and Tick Ask the students to listen to the first part and do No.1 on page105. 2. Listen and Follow! Ask the students to listen to the first part and read aloud with it! 3. Read and Act out! Ask the students to read in pairs and act it out in the class! Part II How many days are in a month? Step I Listen and read 1. Listen and Write Ask the students to listen to the second part and do No2 on page105. 2. Read aloud with it. Step II Class activities 1. Interview four of your friends and fill in the form. Name Birthday Age 1 2 3 4 2. Do it by yourself! Name Birthday Age your mother your father your grandmother your grandfather Don’t forget to tell your students: “If you can't complete the whole form, don't forget to ask them and write them down!” Step III Work In Pairs. Do No.4 on Page 105. Suppose your mother's birthday is coming. What would you like to give her?Why? Class Closing Homework: 1. Complete No.4 on Page 101 in pairs; write down your dialogues, practice with your partner and be prepared to share your dialogues to the class. 2. Do No.3 on Page 105. 3. Read and recite the first part of the text.
