Lesson 39: A Class Calendar Class Opening Greeting 1. Give the standard greeting to welcome students to English class. 2. Ask and answer What day is it today? Which is your busiest month? Why? What day is the New Year’s Day? What day is Christmas Day? What day is Christmas Eve? What do people do on Christmas Eve? What do people get on Christmas Day? Can you say something about Boxing Day/the New Year’s Eve/the New Year’s Day? Homework check! In a group of four, share your calendars and stories. Choose the best calendar and the best story! Show it to all the class! Key concepts Part I What’s the date? Step I Present 1. Show the calendar you prepared and practice the drills: Which month is it? (It’s) January/February.... It's the first/second... month of a year. 2. Learn all the new words and explain some language points. 3. Draw a form to help the students to read and remember the cardinal and the ordinal words. 4. Do No.1 on Page 103. Step II Listen and read 1. Listen and Match. Ask the students to listen to the first part and do No.2 on Page103. 2. Listen and follow! Ask the students to listen to the first part and follow it! Step III Class activities Work In Pairs. Ask and answer these questions with your partner: What happens on 1) Tuesday, January 17? 2) Friday, March 24? 3) Wednesday, April 12? 4) Thursday, June 15? Part II Months of the year Step I Listen and read 1. Listen and Answer! Ask the students to listen to the second part and answer the questions: 1) What is the teacher talking about with the students? 2) What month is Sports Day in? 3) When does the second basketball game take place? 4) What month is Li Yan's birthday in? 2. Read and Act out! Read part 2 in pairs and act it out in the class! Step III Class activities Think, Talk and Make What are the special days that students celebrate in January/February/March/ April/May/June? When are they? Make a class calendar and circle the special days. Class Closing Homework: 1. Do No.3 on Page 103. 2. Work in pairs or groups to complete No.4 on page 103. 3. Read the text and recite all the new words.
