Ask what the students remember from the previous lesson, especially the new words on page 32. If possible give the following pop quiz.
T: Could anybody find a common word for the following two sentences?
My car has four ____s.

S: The answer is wheel.
T: Good. How do you prefer to travel?
S1: I prefer to travel by train.
T: Why is that?
S2: Traveling by train lets me enjoy the landscape.
S:I prefer to travel by airplane. It’s fast and convenient.
Reading
Vocabulary Preview
In this activity, make sure students find the answers taking the context into consideration.

Reading
1. Have the students read the question above the main text; What does Liu Chang think about traveling by train?
2.Ask them to skim the passage and find the answer to the question.
T: What does Liu Chang think about traveling by train?
S: He thinks traveling by train is cheap and fun.
3. Have the students listen to the main text. Encourage them to try to understand the content.
T: Now listen to the tape and try to understand what the main text is about.
4. Ask the students to read the main text to themselves.
T: Read the passage again. While you are reading. I’d like you to underline any words or expressions you don’t know.
5. Explain the words and expressions the students underlined.
After Reading
A Check the answers with the students. Also, talk about the clue sentences in the text.
T: What do you think the answer for Question 1 is?
S: The answer is b.
T: What makes you think so?
S: Throughout the passage, Liu Chang and Wang Dandan persuade Mike to travel by train.

B Have the students match the people with their sayings.

C Review the different ways of traveling and ask the students to write down how they prefer to travel and why.
T: How can we travel?
S1: We can travel by train.
T: Yes, you are right. What else?
S2: We can travel by bus.
S3: We can travel by airplane.
T: Good. Now write down how you prefer to travel and why you prefer that way.
D Based on what the students wrote in C, they should ask their partner how he or she prefers to travel.
