Unit 4 Food and Restaurants Lesson 31 In the Restaurant Teaching Content: Known words and expressions: much, a lot, take, time, restaurant, waiter, ready, order, sorry, any Teaching Aims: 1. Express the feeling in English. 2. Act out a dialogue in roles. 3. Know about the western food and drink culture. Teaching Important Points: 1. Have meals in the restaurant. 2. Talk about likes and dislikes. 3. Talk about prices. Teaching Difficult Points: 1. Talk about the prices. 2. Talk about likes and dislikes. Teaching Preparation: pictures or objects Teaching Aids: Audiotape, Flashcards Type of Lesson: New lesson Teaching Procedure: Step1.1. Act out the dialogue in Lesson 30. 2. Ask the students to name the food in the pictures. Step2. Guess what they are. Teacher asks questions: what is a donut like? S1: A donut is a kind of dessert. S2: A donut is sweet bread with a hole in the middle and a sugary coating.[ S3: What is a hot dog like? S4: A hot dog is a long, sliced bun with a sausage inside. … Step3. Listen to Part 1 and answer the questions: 1. How much for one donut? 2. How many donuts will Li Ming take? 3. How much for one hot dog? 4. How many hot dogs will Jenny take? Step4. Read the text loudly and check the answers. Then read it in roles in pairs. Remember to change the roles. Step5. Use pictures or objects that the students have brought to the class to act the dialogue out. Step6. Listen to the tape and answer the following questions: 1. Where are Li and Jenny? 2. What would Li Ming like? 3. What’s Jenny’s favourite food? 4. Does Jenny like rice and fish? 5. Would Jenny like a bowl of noodles? Step7. Read the text loudly and check the answers. Discuss the answers in the class. If the students have some difficulties, the teacher helps them to solve. Step8. Read the text in roles in pairs. Then let some volunteers to act it out in front of the class. Step9. Let’s sing a song. First sing the song after the tape. Then understand the song correctly. Now let’s sing the song loudly together. Step10. 1. Finish off the activity book together. 2.If we have time, sing the song again. Summary This is the most difficult in this unit. How to order in a restaurant needs to practice for a long time. So encourage all of the students to act the dialogue and make up new dialogues according to the text. Lesson 32 Unit Review Teaching Content: Mastery words and expressions from 25-31. Known words and expressions from 25-31. Teaching Aims: Know about the food and drink habits in the western countries. Cultivate good habits in the daily life. Teaching Important Points: 1.The Present Perfect Tense; 2.Countable nouns and uncountable nouns. 3.How to express uncountable nouns. Teaching Difficult Points: The Present Perfect Tense Teaching Preparation: Flashcards Teaching Aids: Flashcards Type of Lesson: Review Lesson Teaching Procedure: Step1. 1. Sing “Do You Know the Donut Man?” 2.Act the dialogue out in Lesson 31. Step2. Play the Game: The teacher writes some fruit, food and drink words on some pieces of paper. Ask one student to come to the front to get a piece of paper. Then explain what it is in English to the students. The students who guess the correct answers are winners. Step3. Play and Race Let some students count numbers from 1-20. The students who make mistakes can sit down. So at last the students who still stand are the winners. Among several teams, choose the best one. Step4. Ask students to give a report: I get up in the morning. Then I have breakfast. … Step5. Talk about meals: What do you have for breakfast/ lunch/ supper? Do you have eggs, milk and bread everyday? What do you like in the western food? Step6. Discuss the project If today is your birthday, you will invite others to go to the restaurant. What will happen? Make up a dialogue and write it down. Divide the class into several groups. Read the dialogues each other. Then discuss together. Choose the best one to read in front of the class. Step7. Finish the questions in lesson 32. If they have difficulties, the teacher can use flashcards to help them to understand and remember. Step8. Come to the activity book. Summary We have too much to review, so arrange the time appropriately. When they need help, you’d better use flashcards.
