Structure
T: Tell me some sentences that have “who” or “that” in this unit.
S: There was a new student who joined our class today.
She saw lots of places that are in our textbooks.
Is Emma the e-pal who is from Canada?
Let the students read the sentences in the box / on the Bl and try to separate each sentence into two sentences, without relative pronoun. For example,
There was a new student who joined our class today. - There was a new student + the new student joined our class today.
She saw lots of places that are in our textbooks. - She saw lots of places. + The places are in our textbooks.
Is Emma the e-pal who is from Canada? - Is Emma the e-pal? + The e-pal is from Canada?
Activity A
T: Match the two parts of the sentences to make each sentence complete.
T: Let’s read the complete sentences together.
Answers: 1-5. ecdba
Activity B
Have the students complete the sentences using who or that.
T: If you find it hard to combine the sentences right away, try to find the common elements first and then decide whether they are people or things.
T: When you’re done, read what you wrote to your partner and check the answers.
Activity C & D
T: In C, you can write your own sentences using relative pronouns.
T: For D, talk about what you wrote with your partners.

Activity A
Introduce the activity by explaining what “odd” means.
T: What does it mean to be “odd”?
S: It means something is strange or different from the rest.
T: Right. I will give you several minutes to find the odd word.
Activity B
Ask students to complete the dialogue by filling in the blanks. They are going to use the words in the box.
T: We have a dialogue to complete in B
Activity C
T: Using your own words, practice the dialogue in B

Activity A
Have the students listen to each word. Ask them to write down the phonetic symbols of the underlined parts.
T: Write the phonetic symbols of the underlined parts.
Ask the students to think of other words having the following sounds. Such as:
Cheese, key, sea, teacher
Big, dinner, fin, hint, kick
Curl, dirty, pearl, sir, surf
If possible, have the students compare the sounds in minimal pairs. Explain the sounds. …
Activity B
T: Circle words with the above sounds.

Activity C
Let the students read the nursery rhyme. Let them say it with their books closed reminding the sounds they have learned in A
T: Nursery rhymes are short traditional poems or songs for children. While reading the nursery rhyme, be careful to notice the sounds you’ve just learned in A.
