Step 1 Presentation
1.Show students a map and help students know the four directions, east ,west , south and north. Then teach south-east, north-east, south-west, and north-west. Make sure the students can read them and know the meanings of them.
2.Use a simple map to introduce different kinds of buildings and where they are like this Where is/are…? Answer them by using “be north(…) of”
e.g. The zoo is north of our school
Step 2 Practice
The Class 1, Grade 7 students are planning a spring outing. Read the instructions. Look at the map and find the places they plan to visit. T read the four sentences , let students find where they are. Get them to write the numbers in the boxes, then check the answers.
Step 3 Presentation
1.T: Is your home far from our school? How do you usually go to school?
Ss: I usually go to school by bike/ by bus / on foot…
Get Ss to practice in pairs
2.Get Ss to listen to the dialogue in Part B and then answer the following questions.
(1) Where are they going for the trip?
(2) Where’s the zoo?
(3) How will they get there?
3.Read the dialogue after tape and then act out. Work in pairs and talk about a class trip you want to go on. Use Daniel and Simon’s dialogue as a model.
Step 4 Presentation
1.Hobo and Eddie are going on their trip. Does Eddie know the way?
2.Ss look at the pictures and answer the questions.
(1) Where are Hobo and Eddie?
(2) Can Eddie go down the hill?
(3) What does the sign say?
Step5 Practice and act out
1.Students listen to the tape and repeat.
2. Play the tape again, Read the dialogue in teams, and then in pairs
Step 6 Homework.
1.Remember the words , phrases and the important sentences.
2.Preview the Reading part.
