Lesson 8 Why Are Plants Important?
【教材与学生分析】
本节课是冀教版八年级下册unit2 单元中最重要的一课,它是在学习植物的基础上对植物的重要性进行的归纳和总结,直接上升到情感态度的教育,通过本节课的学习让学生们意识到植物的重要性,我们要爱护植物,保护生态环境,但我们所处在山区农村中学,孩子们的见识不是很广泛,尤其是学习这种探究性,讨论型的课型的时候思维很受限制,并且对于英语的学习还没有掌握好的方法,学生在学习中还存在许多问题,所以课堂中老师应尽可能多的运用多种教学方法来引导学生学习,让学生动起来,激发学生的兴趣,从而让学生体会探究的乐趣,体会到学习的快乐。
【教学目标】:
语言知识:通过本文的学习,让学生了解本节课重点单词和短语,并且在听录音时有目的地获取所需关键信息,提高听力水平。
语言技能:通过学习本课的对话,让学生能简单的复述课文,加深对本课的阅读、理解。
情感态度:通过谈论植物的重要性,让学生掌握植物在生活中的重要作用,并且让学生树立爱护植物的思想,培养学生正确的价值观态度。
【教学重点及难点】:
1.重点:Master “Why are plants important?”能用本节所学短语准确表达植物在我们生活中的重要性。
2.难点:区分短语in trees 与on trees
【教学方法】: 任务教学法,学生中心教学法,多媒体教学 。
【教学工具】:多媒体,录音机
Teaching Procedures:
Step1: warming up
1. learn new words
pleasant ['plez(ə)nt] adj. 使人愉快的
shade [ʃeɪd] n. 树荫;阴凉处
fulfill [ful'fil] v. 达到;执行
basic['beɪsɪk] adj. 基本的;基础的
soil[sɒɪl] n. 土;土壤
Teacher will ask some students to read these new words and correct their pronunciation. And then ask them to tell the spelling according to the Chinese meaning to help them remember the words in the class.
2. learn new phrases.
help sb. with sth./ help sb. (to) do sth. it’s pleasant to do sth.
in the shade under a tree fulfill one’s basic needs

Teacher will ask students to guess the Chinese meaning and lead them to read these phrases loudly.
(设计意图:先给出音标,让学生通过音标认识单词,知道单词的读法,老师可以适当进行纠正他们的发音,对于读音有问题的音标进行突破,在教学当中渗透音标教学,帮助学生掌握音标发音规则,同时给出短语,让学生们在提前预习的基础上熟悉今天所要学习的短语,为下面自由讨论清扫障碍).
Step2: Talking
Teacher will show some pictures about plants on the multimedia and ask students:
“Why do we need trees? What kind of things can plants do? ”
In the process, teacher can give students some phrases mentioned in the passage to help them to express themselves. such as :
1. Plants make our world look beautiful.
2. Trees help prevent the dust storm.
3. Trees keep soil from being carried away, it can stop our land from becoming a desert.
4. Trees and other plants help clean the air.
5. Trees are the homes of animals, such as birds, squirrels, monkey, and so on.
6. We can get nuts, fruits, clothing, paper from plants. Some trees can be used to make musical instruments. It can fulfill our basic needs.
7. We can have a rest and play in the shade under a tree.
8. Trees can help us solve the problem of global warming.
(设计意图: 通过讨论引入话题,展现图片,每副图片都会展示植物的不同功能和作用,借助图片的启发和引导,把本课所要学习的重点句子和短语渗透到学生的答案当中去,通过小组比赛形式鼓励学生回答问题,积极思考,激发学生的表达兴趣,调动课堂气氛)
Step 3: First Read
Student should follow the audiotape to read the passage one sentence by one sentence. Teacher corrects the pronunciation during the period.
(设计意图:纠正发音,学生通过跟读来揣摩句子的重读,弱读,失去爆破等现象,既掌握一些朗读技巧,提高听能水平,还促进对语言的整体感悟力,达到了听读的有机结合)
Step4: Second Read
Students read the passage a second time and finish let’s do it NO.1 Ask some students to answer questions and the teacher corrects the answers. And then teacher will lead students to read the nine sentences together.
(设计意图:通过再次精读,使学生知道本文大意,能回答课后问题,加深对文章的理解,通过阅读积累素材,为以后的书面表达打下基础)
Step5: Third Read
Read the dialogue again. Teacher will give the Chinese meaning and ask students to find out the expressions.
帮助某人… help sb. with sth./ help sb. (to) do sth.
做…很愉快 it’s pleasant to do sth.
在树荫底下 in the shade under a tree
满足我们基本需求 fulfill one’s basic needs
从…获取能量 take energy from….
把….变成… turn…into…
把…带走 carry…away

(设计意图:帮助学生抓住本文重难点短语,突破学生对本文的理解障碍)
Step 6: Studying language points
1. It’s pleasant to do… 做….很愉快
pleasant 指一般性的好,强调所修饰对象所具有的品质使人觉得好玩、有趣、舒服,含有客观性。
It’s pleasant to live in beautiful environment.生活在优美的环境里是令人愉快的。
We had a very pleasant time at their house last night.昨晚我们在他们家过得很愉快。
pleased 指某人满足了自己的愿望而感到高兴。
I’m very pleased you can come. 我很开心你能来。
延伸:it’s+adj+(for sb.)+ to do sth.对某人来说做…很…
2. fulfill v. 达到,实现,执行
We must fulfill the plan, whatever happens.无论如何要完成计划。
I will try my best to fulfill/realize my dream. 我会尽全力实现我的梦想。
fulfill one’s needs 满足某人的需要
The earth helps human beings fulfill their basic needs.地球帮助人类实现最基本的需求。
3. take energy from… 从……获取能量
All plants and animals take energy from the sun.所有的动植物都从太阳获取能量。
People must take energy from food.人必须从食物中获取能量
4. be made from/of… 由……制成
The paper is made from wood.纸是树木做的。(看不出来原材料)
The desk is made of wood.桌子是由木头做的.(看得出来原材料)
be made in …在某地制造 This kind of car is made in Japan.
be made by…由谁制造,强造制造者 My bag is made by my grandmother.
be made up of…由….组成 Our class is made up of 48 students.
5. carry away 把……搬(移)走
The flood carried away the wooden bridge. 洪水把木桥冲走了。
Soil was carried away by wind. 土壤被风带走了。
carry…away 把…带走 Please carry my sister away, because she is so naughty.
(设计意图:教师通过展示多媒体课件把所学的语法知识展示出来,通过讲解造句巩固练习,帮助学生掌握本节课所学短语)
6. 区别in trees / on trees
辨析:on trees 指的是树本身所长的东西,如树叶,果实等在树上
In trees 指的是不属于树本身生长的东西,如鸟,人等在树上
There are some apples on trees. 树上有一些苹果。
Birds are singing in trees. 鸟儿在树上唱歌。
(设计意图:通过这一环节,让学生学会运用短语造句,此次训练遵循了由易到难,由简到繁,循序渐进的过程。从机械训练开始,过渡到半机械训练,最后较真实的情景中达到自由交际)。
Step 7: Let’s Do It No.2
Teacher will give students 5 minutes to finish the task.
(设计意图: 通过小组合作完成填空练习,加深学生对本节课重点单词的理解,同时在教师引导下,学生互相学习,激发了学习的兴趣)
Step 8: Retell the text
Teacher asks some students to retell the text with the help of phrases on the blackboard.
(鼓励学生复述课文,在课堂上尽量理解并且掌握本文所学内容,能用自己的话准确清晰地表达出来植物的重要性,这也是对本文重点的突破))
Step 9: Homework
Write a diary about why we need trees.
(设计意图; 此次作业是一个开放型的任务活动,旨在让学生在”做中学”,巩固内化本节课的词汇及句型,同时为下节课的语言学习起到了承上启下的过渡作用)
Summary:
Reviewing the text is very important. Make students know what they have learnt in the class. Let them summarize “ Why Are Plants Important? Why do we need trees? What kind of things can plants do? ”

教 学 反 思
本节课在前几节课学习的基础上进一步来学习植物的重要性,通过运用多媒体向学生展示了植物的作用。并结合问题“Why do we need trees?”、“ What kind of things can plants do?”and “Why Are Plants Important?” 来理解课文,在学习单词、短语、句子的同时要求学生理解运用,本课的学习让学生充分的认识了植物对人类生活的重要作用,培养了学生爱护植物的情感,达到理想的教学效果。
